Obama: Gun owners do not need to stock up
Chicago Sun Times ^ | December 7, 2008 | ABDON M. PALLASCH

Posted on 12/07/2008 7:27:30 PM PST by An Old Man

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.

...

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

...

"Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

It does handle two different size shells, 2 3/4 and 3 inch.

Thanks loads, that is exactly what the piece looks like. So, I can buy diferrent screw in pieces to modify the choke?

I think the poster misinterpreted that as meaning it took 2 different gauges of shells. Dropping a 20 ga shell in a 12 ga is the most common way of blowing up a shotgun, as it will fall far enough in that a 12 will chamber and fire.

That’s why 20 ga shells are yellow, they used to be the same colors as 12’s.

True if the receiver says so, but that has nothing to do with the choke.

When my “friends and neighbors” become part of a tyranical government they are no longer...well...friends, at least.

Herr Gauleiter may be your neighbour, but he ain't your friend.

Yep, they are generally proprietary to the gun manufacturer, so either buy the manufacturer's brand or go with compatible aftermarket ones.

I've had good luck with Trulock chokes for my shotgunning.

The Brady Bunch can/will have AWB II, .50 cal ban, >10rd mag restriction, private sales ban, total import ban, faux training requirements, etc. enacted on January 21. The bills have been written, and the votes likely are already lined up. O will sign anything that hits his desk.

Sorry for a late reply, I have a Remington 870 Express and yes you buy different tubes to create either wider or narrower shot patterns, please educate yourself on that! It would ruin your day if you fired a slug and you had a real tight choke!

Its the removable choke. You can most likely buy other inserts that will change the choke setting. There is cylinder bore, full choke and other settings for a shotgun bore. When you bought it, someone should have pointed out what choke it was set for:)

Could you shoot a deputy (possibly a friend or neighbor) who came to take your gun? I couldn’t. Same thing all the way up the ladder. We would be shooting at friends and neighbors, and the federal government has far more fire power than we do.

Yep, I could and I would. They would be no different than any other crook trying to steal my goods or my freedom. They are no longer your friends if they are trying to enforce unconstitutional laws. Laws don't override the constitution and we have no compunction to obey them if they do.

Our forefathers, or founding fathers if you prefer, faced the same situation you are talking about. They didn't wimp out, they fought the authorities, they fought their former friends and neighbors and eventually won. Many of them lost everything, including family members, in their fight for freedom but they didn't falter and they kept on going right to the end.

If you wish to end up a slave then follow your advice and don't fight back, myself, I will take the words of Patrick Henry to heart and follow them.

It will be a “choke.” Most chokes on most shotguns are not adjustable, they’re fixed. There are about a half-dozen standard choke sizes:

Name Constriction Pattern density[*]
Cylinder .000” 40%
Skeet .005” 53%
Improved Cylinder .010” 57%
Modified .020” 67%
Improved Modified .030 73%
Full choke .040” 75%

[*] Pattern density is measured by putting up a target that is a piece of paper with a 30” diameter circle on it at 40 yards. I like to use a couple pieces of butcher paper taped together, but shelf paper, blank newspaper, etc will all do well. You just need a big, clean sheet of paper on which you can draw a 30” target circle you can see easily.

You shoot a single round at the middle of this circle. Then start counting pellet holes.

As you see from the “pattern density” above, the job of chokes is to give you a more dense pattern at range. A “full choke” is something you might use on waterfowl at longer range, whereas a “cylinder” choke is something you might use when you’re skeet shooting close in to the house.

Most of my work with a shotgun on a farm and hunting upland game has been with an improved modified.

NB that if you’re going to use slugs out of a shotgun, you’d best double-check which choke you have in the gun - you want no constriction when you’re using slugs, so you want a cylinder choke.

NEVER shoot a shotgun without a choke in it. You’ll mess up the threads in the barrel and you’ll have to end up cutting off the end of the barrel and getting new threads machined in.

If you’ll ever use the non-lead shot, double check that your chokes are rated for the hardness of non-lead shots, like steel and tungsten.

You should remove the choke every so often and lube the threads of a choke occasionally with some oil or light grease to keep it from seizing in the bore.

“We???” What’s with Hussein’s groupthink? Does “we” mean Barack and Michelle? Barack and Joe? Barack and the rest of the muslim community? Barack, Nancy and Harry?

Reminds me of what the Hijackers said on Flight 93 as they took over. This was also transmitted out because they'd not yet switched to internal communications, only.

"We are returning to the airport, the authorities have met out demands. Please sit down and remain calm."

Meaning in OBAMA-speak: Please sit down and remain calm while we finish our plans to permanently seize power and finish building your concentration camps!

Gotta love liberals. Always quick with a judgement about what constitutes "enough".

Secondly, who are they (whoever they are) to say if whether I have enough firearms or not?

My thoughts exactly.

The price of ammo is going up daily. It will be the currency of the future. Buy it while you can.

Actually, with copper and lead being half of what they were earlier this year, ammo is not likely to go up much. And it is unlikely to be for first thing banned.

I’d buy either unpapered guns (private sale, assuming one lives in a free state).

Or I’d buy AR-15 lowers, as an investment on the assumption of a AWB like before. Most are sold out or overpriced, but these guys sell good stuff at a reasonable price without a long wait: www.essentialREM0VEarms.com
