US President George W. Bush said in an interview Tuesday he was forced to sacrifice free market principles to save the economy from "collapse."

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system," Bush told CNN television, saying he had made the decision "to make sure the economy doesn't collapse."

I've been saying that this coming Great Depression is something severe and is like "going to war" in which you abandon normal measures for *extreme measures*. It's obvious, now, that Bush and Cheney think it is that serious, too....

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system," Bush told CNN television...

So, in effect he's saying that socialism works better.

Damn fool!

You said about Bush and Cheney — “Damn fool!”

Well.., this is something that I can agree with Bush and Cheney on. They are obviously more informed on many of the details of what is happening and all the ins and outs of our economy. I think they know what they’re talking about...

34 days, 17 hours, 47 minutes. Then we replace one Fabian socialist idiot with another.

Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy

Did he have any explanations for the previous seven and a half years?

Love this guy and he will go down in history as a President that defended this Country. That said, this bailout BS is just that, BS. He has laid the foundation for the chosen one to come in a keep Dems and their giveaways in place for 50 years, just like FDR. Somebody in the Republican Party better wake up. It isn’t the old guys, lets get some new folks in there.

Or, the treatment will prove to be like bloodletting to treat a fever. Massive debts, nationalized banks, restrictive regulations, government direction of industry, opening the liquidity floodgates — if these extreme measures don't fix the economy, they'll destroy it.

What are the alternatives to a free market system? Socialism or some form of govt. control. Bush is saying that those work better than the free market. You agree with that?

Only a damn fool would say it let alone believe it. I don't care what he "knows". Unless this is the plan they have all along - to rend the free market we have and amalgamate it with the rest of the world. Are you for that?

No, I think Bush and Cheney are right. We’re headed for a Great Depression and extreme measures are called for... that’s just the way I think it is. After things have recovered, then I’m sure we can head back to normal territory...

WHAT??????? Bush, what ARE you smoking?

You’ve done some great things for our country (such keeping us safe, signing the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act and appointing two great justices to the SCOTUS), but this bailout stuff is just WRONG! Why are you doing this???

When Congress passed that (illegal, Senate-originated) trillion-dollar bailout bill, the best I could do was give them the benefit of the doubt - hoping they did it because they knew something the rest of the country didn’t, and acted on that knowledge to save this country from ruin. (As Lincoln said, the Constitution is not a suicide pact.)

But (again giving them the benefit of the doubt) are they really saving this country from ruin? Or are they merely postponing the ruin?

How will we recover from three or four trillion dollars of debt?

It’s sad that we are going to have to repeat history in order to learn its lessons, rather than just learn them from the record as we should.
