After things have recovered, then I’m sure we can head back to normal territory...

When has the government taken away give aways? Once you start with that, it's a killer to shut it off. Someone will always have an excuse to keep it going "just a little bit longer." And 30 years later...

Yes, I heard that was a strategy during the Viet Nam war

It was. We lost.

I see you traveled to this website from another star. Probably the star of statism. You’re obviously a stranger to capitalism. It shows.

"I’m sure we can head back to normal territory"

Yup, just like we did after FDR.

Breathtakingly naive.

I hope that doesn’t mean that Sharia law is next...

Hey, he can claim our court system is broken, so we're going to save it by instituting Sharia law.

You asked of Bush — “Why are you doing this???”

Well the patient (the U.S. economy) is headed for the hospital and intensive care. Now, there are some here, who would (if they saw a patient like this) say that this patient should survive outside of intensive care. We don’t need no stinkin’ medical instruments... LOL...

And if the patient dies — “Well, it’s because of the Democrats, in the first place... :-)

I don’t think so. If you’ve got a patient headed for the hospital and is going to be placed in intensive care — they really need some help as they can’t function at all on their own. And that’s the state of the economy now.

That’s what Bush and Cheney are saying...

It is going to be bad... but you already know that I know this... but the Free Market is stronger than some think... and government intervention will only make things worse. Chemo and radiation will damn near kill you... but it will save your life in the long run... many times... Bush has just prolonged the inevitable... I say let the Free Market correct itself and kill off the bad cells the way Free markets do. All we need to do is look back on fdr and steer 180 degrees to starboard.

I think they know what they’re talking about...

I think not. Common sense should not be abandoned. Propping up an economy built on air (bad credit) only grows the problem. We should have just "let it burn." GWB and the other Ivy educated big-shots in Washington and Wall Street still think they know it all. This crisis is being made worse with each passing day. Let's stop feeding the beast and deal with the pain now, rather than destroying ourselves with an irreversible slide into socialism and tyranny.

No matter what you want in regards to policy matters and financial matters — nothing you or I can say or do will prevent the big slide that is happening right before our faces. The economy has a *long lag time* before all effects are fully seen. I would expect that it will start to get really serious about 2009 and continue getting worse for a couple of years.

This patient (i.e., the economy) is getting ready to be “on life support”. You would be one of those who wants to engage in “euthanasia” and “pull the plug” on the patient... LOL...

I hope you don’t do that with your mother... :-)

At least we can QSO on the air if we can’t afford telephones any longer.

How will we recover from three or four trillion dollars of debt?

Silly goose, don't you know Obama's going to fix that by raising taxes?

Once granted, how many times has the government rolled back its own authority?

I think what Bush and Cheney are saying is that this is a “life support” situation and normal measures won’t cut it. And in that regard, I tend to agree. I’m just surprised to see both Bush and Cheney just come right out and say it (I posted a “Cheney piece” elsewhere...).

I think it’s *commendable* that they are not mincing words and making it very clear *how serious it is* — and for them to say this — it means that it’s *very, very serious* indeed...
