Obama has been touted as among the most literary presidents in modern history, but his choice for an inaugural poet has some scratching their heads.
Acting more like a man of politics than a man of letters, Obama picked former Chicago neighbor and family chum Elizabeth Alexander to deliver an original inaugural poem next month. Alexander, 46, is an African-American studies professor at Yale. Her brother worked on Obamas campaign and transition team, according to the New Yorker magazine.
That’s more like a twitter entry than a poem.
Disturbing isn't it? Must be somthing in the water.
When I visited the tower of London, I saw signs in several languages warning people to beware of pickpockets. The Spanish version read “Cuidado con las carteristas”. Words to live by.
LITERARY????.....LITERARY????....
No one can find ANYTHING he ever wrote when he was editor of the Harvard Law Review....no College Papers...nothing.....oh, yeah...his so called book....which someone else probably wrote....
The fact that he is only 45 and has accomplished nothing noteworthy should have put his memoirs in the fiction aisle.
Oh joy. She sounds like the traditional poetry barf bag that writes about nothing of value. Heard loads of them and even sadly taught by a few. I found these sorts to be quite jealous of people that actually write about universally powerful poetry that respects the history of the craft. Often these folks to not give Frost the admiration he deserves as Frost my fellow FReepers was a conservative and a poet. He has gifted and a real poet. Not to mention he was white.
I hate what passes for artistic instruction in this day and age. Most often it is a joke and this women is a great example of what a joke it is. They called her someone not know outside of 'academic' circles (I might add and not in them either--LOL), and that just goes to show what hooey is being honored now. /sarc.
How’s this:
There once was a ‘bama named “Barry”
Whose views on taxation were scarry
“tax the rich, help the poor”
“nothing less, nothing more”
It’s the rule of Moe, Curly snd Larry
You'd think a “poet” would know that a “syllabic” is a verse structure while an “iamb” is a type of meter used in each line.
She's not just lazy. She's stupid, too. Which, I suppose is repetitive of the first observation I made in this reply.
The “most literary” president has never read (or at least doesn’t understand) the Constitution.
Expect a lot more of this garbage disguised as art when the Obamas take over the White House.
Andrew Jackson was a polished gentleman and his hangers-on were royalty compared to the trash that’s coming in after January 20th.
Among others.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening - Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping there
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Title: President Andrew Jackson During his Inauguration at the White House
Description: President Jackson was known for opening up the White House to visitors of all classes. His inauguration party lasted for hours as throngs of people from packed streets pushed into the White House. This painting captures the rowdy scene with its broken furniture and stifling crowd. It took a whole week to scrub and clean the White House after the party.
Date: 1970
Creator: Louis S. Glanzman

That's why she holds the post of Professor of African-American Studies at Yale University.
One Ivy League affirmative action guy invites another to decorate his inauguration.<\p> And no doubt the elite will applaud.
Nude Descending a Staircase
BY X J KENNEDY
Toe after toe, a snowing flesh,
a gold of lemon, root and rind,
she sifts in sunlight down the stairs
with nothing on. Nor on her mind.
We spy beneath the banister
a constant thresh of thigh on thigh;
her lips imprint the swinging air
that parts to let her parts go by.
One-woman waterfall, she wears
her slow descent like a long cape
and pausing on the final stair,
collects her motions into shape.
I don't need to. Poetry sucks and this probably a joke anyway.
Bart.
-- Robert Frost
(Gotta love the man.)
