Activists trying to bring aid to Gaza today claimed their boat had been rammed by Israeli gunboats in a "criminal attack" in international waters.
The Free Gaza Movement said its vessel, the Dignity, was intercepted by several Israeli vessels as it was heading to the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli aerial bombardment since Saturday.
One gunboat rammed the Dignity on the port bow side, causing heavy damage, although no one was hurt, the group said.
"[The Dignity] is taking on water and appears to have engine problems," the movement said on its website. "When attacked, the Dignity was clearly in international waters, 90 miles off the coast of Gaza.
"The gunboats also fired their machine guns into the water in an attempt to stop the mercy ship from getting to Gaza.
"Israel thumbs its nose in the face of maritime law by attacking a human rights boat in international waters and has put all of these human rights observers at risk.
"At no time was the Dignity ever close to Israeli waters. They clearly identified themselves and the Israeli attack was willful and criminal."
The group said the attack took place as the Dignity carried three tonnes of medical supplies at the request of doctors in Gaza.
The crew and passengers were hoping to treat some of those injured in four days of the Israeli air strikes, with hospitals in the territory overwhelmed.
The Dignity is still in international waters, 40 miles off Haifa, and is making its way slowly to Lebanon. The ship flies the flag of Gibraltar, is piloted by an English captain and its passenger list includes Cynthia McKinney, a former US congresswoman.

Do. Do. Not so. Shaking head.
Typical "aid to Gaza:"
Cant say Im surprised that she is siding with the terrorists.
Ha, the article made me smile and your graphic made my smile bigger. :D
We were watching the same thing, obviously!! LOL I told my husband basically the same thing. You know, they’re out in the middle of no where. If that ship goes down, who’s to know?
My bp probably matched yours after the crew started whining about the fishermen lobbing flash grenades at them. HELLO?
You threw the first, might I remind you, STINKY SLIPPERY cocktails and you’re upset because someone’s retaliating?
I wanted to snatch a knot in all their necks and smack them upside the head with one of their own stinkbombs!
Imagine if they actually sank the craft. The sight of her face in the sea would scare away even the most fearsome of sharks.
They would be skimming ugly off the water for three days!
Sorry RWI.
I didn’t see yours and posted the same picture further down.
Two laughs are better than one?
Of course they are; anything to keep causes they have never actually experienced or lived up, right.
Maybe they will keep her.
No problem, Chuck. GMTA.
Did you think that Captain was full of cr*p when he claimed to be “shot”?
I have seen pictures of people with bullet proof vests on that have been shot, and they don’t just stand there and say “gee, what was that?” and not have a bruise. I was watching the flash pictures going off and the video crew there but not allowing a close up of the bullet or vest, also the instant internet declarations seeking pity and I KNEW they faked it completely.
I wonder if she slapped the Israeli ship?
What a sea cow!
I'm not sure CMac is smart enough to be a Muzzie sympathizer.
Ping!
Bingo! Told hubby the same thing! He wasn’t shot! He didn’t even move or stumble, and from that distance, even if they’d shot him with a 22 he would have done more than clutch his chest!
Hey! Maybe they could invite CM onto their boat and the I’s and the J’s could double team them! Nah, never happen, but it’s a nice thought.
Israel you made my day.
They should have boarded and done a full inspection. If there were nothing but medical supplies they should have let it go through. But if there were even the smallest amount of armaments then they would have the chance for a PR win...especially with a former congress critter on board a gun-runner.
