Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.
Wall Street Journal ^ | December 29, 2008 | Andrew Osborn

Posted on 12/30/2008 5:51:10 AM PST by Kjirstje

For a decade, Russian academic Igor Panarin has been predicting the U.S. will fall apart in 2010. For most of that time, he admits, few took his argument -- that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S. -- very seriously. Now he's found an eager audience: Russian state media.

Prof. Panarin, 50 years old, is not a fringe figure. A former KGB analyst, he is dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry's academy for future diplomats. He is invited to Kremlin receptions, lectures students, publishes books, and appears in the media as an expert on U.S.-Russia relations.

But it's his bleak forecast for the U.S. that is music to the ears of the Kremlin, which in recent years has blamed Washington for everything from instability in the Middle East to the global financial crisis. Mr. Panarin's views also fit neatly with the Kremlin's narrative that Russia is returning to its rightful place on the world stage after the weakness of the 1990s, when many feared that the country would go economically and politically bankrupt and break into separate territories.

"There's a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur," he says. "One could rejoice in that process," he adds, poker-faced. "But if we're talking reasonably, it's not the best scenario -- for Russia." Though Russia would become more powerful on the global stage, he says, its economy would suffer because it currently depends heavily on the dollar and on trade with the U.S.

Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

Yeah, just keep talking, russkie. The way your demographics are going, you’ll be owned by muslims before any fracturing the USA takes place.

Looks like a headline from a 1958 issue of Popular Mechanics.

The end of the United States has been imminent ever since I was a boy in the 1970s when disco was popular and Jimmy Carter was president. I suppose it will happen eventually as all good things must come to an end. I wouldn’t hold my breath though.

In Igor Panarin’s dreams. Wonder if he believes in Global Warming? Or the Tooth fairy?

Igor was teenage doofus when I predicted the end to the Soviet Union while stationed in Leningrad in ‘75.

I think his analysis is interesting. He’s an informed outsider which what many Americans pretend to be about the rest of the world.

He is basing his fantasy on the actual break-up of the Soviet Union - a totally different creature. The nations that were the spoils of WII, and subsumed by Russia -retained their ethnic identities and (with Yeltsin’s winks & nods)reclaimed their sovereign rights.

The USA is not a collection of nations, but is ONE NATION. We may be contrary - but we are not suicidal. When push comes to shove - we are always Americans first.

Well the 1st half is right. All of that will trigger something, but few in this country have the balls for even modest civil disobedience, let alone a full scale war.

As I see it, America is going to be declining into 3rd world status.
Mass immigration alone will do that, and the moral degradation has reached right through much of the government.

Socialism in many states has reached unity, with little left until outright socialism/communism is the reality.
Most of higher education is a joke and is little more than leftist propaganda centers masquerading as education itself.

civil war? Apart from the few, who among you is ready to fight an organized civil war with no allies, no help, and against the government and the types who run much of it?

Bow to your masters

EVEVTUALLY, the US will come to an end, of course. Probably not for a good while, though. Near-term, the most likely loss would be that of the Southwest to Mexico. THAT could happen in my lifetime!

Was this based on self examination, or did you take a survey.

“Bow to your masters”

Have one master, don’t need another.

The US is France/England in slow motion. SS going bankrupt and Muslims taking over sections of numerous states will certainly happen and raise tensions very high. But as long as Democrats can vote for free money, and no Voter ID cards are required, nothing can stop the cycle.

With Obama in the white house and communist democrats running congress. May not be a bad prediction. I say odds are about 3 to 2.

This country is to homogeneous, with four lane highways crossing every border of every state, it is hard to tell which state you are in at times. There is much more difference between any other country than ever is between states, I just don’t see it.

The Former Soviet Union is the exact opposite, with poor communications and harsh cultural differences within even Russia. The US has many ethnic groups, but really only one culture. Not even comparable and I think that is where his analysis fails.
