NASA Chief's Wife to Obama: Don't Fire My Husband
Associate Press ^ | 12/31/08 | SETH BORENSTEIN

Late on Christmas Eve, one last wish was sent, by e-mail: Please let NASA Administrator Michael Griffin keep his job. It was from his wife.

Rebecca Griffin, who works in marketing, sent her message with the subject line "Campaign for Mike" to friends and family. It asked them to sign an online petition to President-elect Barack Obama "to consider keeping Mike Griffin on as NASA Administrator."

She wrote, "Yes, once again I am embarrassing my husband by reaching out to our friends and 'imposing' on them.... And if this is inappropriate, I'm sorry."

This is idiotic. Griff’s Obama’s best friend in the “science” community.

This is exactly the problem with letting the government dictate the priorities of an industry. If you think NASA has bungled space development, wait until the government gets done with the banking, insurance, auto, medical, etc. industries. Even the Soviet Union knew that they needed to foster some competition in key industries.

The Russians are going to get a big belly laugh when our economy seizes up under the Obama-messiah administration and Democrat Congress.

True conservatives embrace genuine scientific research and development, not a jobs program with little to show for the billions of tax dollars poured into it.

Either you are naive or have a vested interest in NASA’s continued funding. There is some real science and engineering going on with NASA funds, but there is also a lot of “social engineering” and “ego monuments” that sap our economy like other government pork that you don’t like.

Sometimes you don’t merely need to “gore someone else’s ox,” but slaughter the whole herd.

I have no vested interest besides the benefits we all get, and the milestones Americans have made with NASA.

I guess you aren’t however.. Which is impossible, even if you aren’t a US citizen.

Ok NASA, keep Michael Griffin, but run Dr. James Hansen(the dean of global warming fanatics) out on a rail. That won't happen, but it is a happy thought.

NASA and the military are the 2 things government work actually ends with results.
The military works despite government.
NASA has sucked down $60 billion a year for decades (you do the math) and the results speak for themselves.
Little more than Tang, Teflon, some pretty pictures and a whole bunch of dead people.

We landed on the FREAKING MOON. We have rovers on Mars. People have been in and out of space by the hundreds.

wtf do you want? This is a TINY amount of the federal budget. Stop being a.. ugh, not worth even trying anymore.

Nonsense, NASA and the military are the 2 things government work actually ends with results.

I hate luddite ‘conservatives’ that can’t stand space and research investment.

If NASA would quit with all the global warming crap and get back to rockets, I would be more supportive of them. NASA no longer resembles the glorious institution it once was.

NASA, like the military, works best when you give them a VERY SPECIFIC mission, direct orders to accomplish the mission, and provides a well defined budget to do it in.

In the absence of any specific direction, NASA is no better than any other government organization. Protect the rice bowls at any cost, and protect jobs.

The problems we’re seeing with NASA, is not NASA or those who work there, but a lack of leadership. An Obama presidency guarantees that there will be at least 4 more years of no leadership.
