For the next five months ORP “Kondor” will be part of multinational forces that contribute to guarantee safety of the sea transport on the Mediterranean Sea. This is the third Polish submarine mission in the history of NATO activity in this region

In order to fulfill her mission ORP "Kondor" will monitor important areas of the Mediterranean to detect any terrorist activities at sea and also any other illegal activities possibly related to terrorism, like drugs and human bodies trafficking.

ORP „Kondor” left Gdynia harbor on the 10th of October. To get to the Mediterranean she passed the Baltic Sea, North Sea, took a short stop in Cherbourg (France) and went through the Atlantic Ocean by the coasts of Spain and Portugal. Commanding Officer of the first rotation of the Polish Military Contingent “Kondor” (this is how ORP “Kondor” is called during his mission) is Lt Cdr Piotr Pawlowski. Kondor has 25 Polish submariners onboard and the Deputy of the PMC “Kondor”, Cdr Leszek Dziadek is an operations officer in COMSUBSOUTH in Naples.

No, it stands for "okręt", which means "military ship" in Polish. "ORP" is Polish equivalent of American "USS" or British "HMS"

They’re going on a mission with their hull number painted on their sail????? Certainly isn’t the USN Silent Service - we don’t do that.

I have to admire them, though. Looks pretty cramped in there.

Godspeed, guys.

Gotta admit I used to find the screen door joke pretty funny. But Solidarity and John Paul II ended that. Now, Toledo, that's another matter...

Were did they get the subs from?

Enjoyed the pictures! Maybe they will get to go to Somalia and sink pirates.

Oh, it is, definitely. Well, the sub is not a Seawolf, unfortunately.

But anyway - I can't imagine how can one spend several weeks in such conditions. Even on a large USN nuclear submarine (in such a case it may even be several months, I suppose).

3-years on the USS M.G. Vallejo SSBN 658 (blue Crew) - a Ben Franklin-class ballistic missile sub. Plenty of room (relatively speaking) for the 60-90 day patrols back in the late 60’s early 70’s. Looks like this little sub would fit in the missile compartment.

It’s not a bad life for young, single guys, but it was tough on the married guys.

You Americans :-)))

A friend of mine has just brought a car from US to Poland - GMC Yukon.
And when I was going to visit him he told me - "OK, I'll have a chance to let you park your C4 (Citroen) in the boot of my Yukon" :-)

You’re right. We don’t have much perspective :-)

That’s making me claustrophobic just looking at it. Guess that’s why I wasn’t a Bubblehead.

Sometimes I wonder whether the European Union still has the instinct and the fortitude to defend itself. Your frequent pictures of the Polish armed forces show that Poland retains the fortitude.
