U.S. Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio is leaving open the possibility of not running for re-election in 2010.

Voinovich, 72, is thinking about the challenging economic situation in Ohio, the direction of the country, and the best interests of his family, said spokesman Chris Paulitz.

The senator would let the people of Ohio know quickly if he decides not to seek a third term, Paulitz said.

The Columbus Dispatch, citing sources, reported Friday that Voinovich had shuffled his fundraising team and told his staff he might not run again.

Voinovich is getting on in years, but I don’t know who Republicans would recruit. Perhaps state Auditor Mary Taylor.

Taylor is certainly a possibility...maybe Kasich, but I’ve heard he’s going to run for governor.

The more I look at the landscape, the more I think conservatives have a chance to gain in 2010. All they’ve got to do is find someone conservative to run against the Rats.

Isn’t this the idiot that cried during Bolton’s hearing for UN ambassador?

Or Steve Stivers, who had the Columbus (OH-15) House seat stolen from him by Kilroy with the able assistance of Brunner.

Yep, maybe Bristol Palin could move to Ohio and run. I think Track Palin could move to Missouri and run for retiring Kit Bond's seat too.

When he was governor, he cried (again, literally) on camera when he had to hold welfare benefits down to a 2% increase one year.

Mary Taylor is a possibility. Kasich is the likely candidate for governor. Rob Portman is the most likely candidate for senator at this point.

She wouldn't have a prayer. Her shenanigans have done her in for any higher office.
