I think that for safety sake, all distractions while driving should be banned. No reading maps or newspapers. No eating or drinking while driving. No radios allowed in cars. No passengers allowed to talk to the driver: To ensure safety, the passengers need to be in the trunk.
And no pretty girls allowed out on the streets.

I have had so many close calls with 4 wheelers yakking on cell phones over the last several years that I would not be able to count them all up.
My solution?
I got a job that is in a place that I can walk to if I had to. I drive less than 3000 miles a year, and I have spent less than a single weeks pay on gasoline over the last few years.
People driving cars while yakking are a menace.

Personally, I’d rather see them banned in restaurants, stores, lines at the post office....most public places for that matter.

If I was advising a company on risk issues, I would advise them to at least ban hand held cell phones while driving on company business. Even if it isn’t a contributing factor, you know a plaintiff’s attorney will try to hang it around your neck even if their client caused the wreck.

I don’t support a nanny state. This is just another law designed to enable cops to pull over motorists to search for “drugs.”

Just ban crashes. Millions talk on their cells daily and don’t crash.

I think some people, my husband for example, can not drive and talk about something important at the same time. He slows down, misses turns, etc. Driving competently takes more concentration than people realize. This us what should be stressed. My daughter was rear ended by a guy driving a huge Dodge pick up. She saw him checking his cell phone just before he hit her and rammed her Beetle into an old Chevy Caprice. (I think) Fortunately she was only bruised by her shoulder harness. She hates to drive now, or be driven for that matter. That said.... I would love for her to be able to call me for directions or help if she is driving through a dangerous area without feeling she has to pull over to the curb.

Given that so many people have endangered my life with this behavior, I’m fully in support of banning the use of cell phones while driving.

While they're at it, they should ban the even more dangerous distractions that threaten the public safety such as police officers operating radar guns while driving, police officers listening to and responding to radio dispatchers while driving, police officers viewing or operating data terminals while driving, etc.
Watch 'em squeal when you propose those "safety" improvements...
And no, before anybody goes off half-cocked, the use of the word 'squeal' in the paragraph above does not suggest in any way, shape, or form that I am equating police officers with 'pigs'.

Driving while talking on a hand helded cellphone is already against the law here in CA.

Texas will have legislation proposed in the upcoming session that if enacted could be the strictest ban in the nation or so it’s claimed...

AUSTIN, TexasSome Texas lawmakers are trying to ban drivers from talking on their cell phones while on the road even if theyre using a hands-free device.
If the lawmakers get their way, it would be the strictest cell phone ban in the nation.
They are expected to introduce bills for the ban when the legislative session begins next week.

I was stopped in traffic when a woman chatting on a cell phone rammed her car into mine. I spent several months in physical therapy and still have some problems caused by the ‘accident’. I favor banning talking on cell phones while driving.
To: TornadoAlley3
My insurance company State Farm says just about the same amount of traffic accidents happen with cell phones as with drunk driving. I can't recount how many times I was almost hit with some idiot talking on a cell phone.
Listening to talk radio is not the same as trying to concentrate on talking to someone on a phone while driving.

I think we should ban straight shift cars. Anything that takes even one hand off the wheel and requires multi-tasking while driving should be outlawed /sarcasm. Any bets the NCS has heavy Big Insurance Company backing or is under their direct control as far as membership goes?

We've reached the saturation point for laws. Henceforth, no new law may be passed without deleting an existing law.
That is all.

Thank you, God!
Nothing drives me up the wall more than some IDIOT hogging up the passing lane while blabbing away on their cell phone.
Makes me wish I had a car with a giant speaker on the top like the Blues Brothers.
Talk about road rage. I could kill the STUPID b@#*&$d.

It's only a matter of time.
One only needs to be on a major highway regularly (and not talking on a cell phone) to see how dangerous cell phone users are.
Of course they all think they are superior drivers, so it doesn't matter. Delusional is more like it. A few seconds' inattention and I (or my estate) will own their assets. They can be delusional all they want.
Comparing active cell phone use while driving, to listening to the radio is absurd to the point of incredulity.
