‘Have The Citizens of Juarez and El Paso Finally Had Enough?‘
California Chronicle ^ | Jan. 17, 2009 | Dave Gibson

Posted on 01/18/2009 7:19:20 AM PST by AuntB

Fed up with the crushing violence which has transformed the city of Juarez into a free-fire zone, a group of residents calling themselves the Juárez Citizens Command, has sent out a press release vowing to kill one criminal every day, until order is restored. The CCJ claims to be a group of businessmen, frustrated over the seeming inability of the authorities to curb the spiraling violence in Juarez.

The statement from the CCJ was distributed in Spanish on the internet on Jan. 15. The following is an excerpt from that statement:

“Better the death of a bad person, than that bad person continue contaminating our region.”

“Our mission is to finish each 24 hours with the life of a criminal. The hour has come to stop this disorder in Juárez.“

The CCJ said they would soon release a full manifesto detailing their stated goals.

During 2008, there were more than 1,600 murders in Juarez. In addition to the murders being fueled by an ongoing war between the Juarez and Sinoloa Cartels, thousands of kidnappings occurred in and around Juarez last year. Also, bank robberies and carjackings have now become an everyday occurrence in the city. In short, chaos reigns.

Recently, Mexican President Felipe Calderon ordered an additional 2,000 troops into Juarez to battle the cartels. However, more than 35, 000 federal troops are currently deployed throughout Mexico, battling the cartels, with poor results.

A few days before Christmas, the bodies of eight Mexican soldiers were found about 50 miles from Acapulco. All of the men had been decapitated. Several Mexican newspapers reported the contents of a note beside the severed heads which read: “For every one of ours you kill, we will kill 10 of yours.“

More than 5,600 people were killed in Mexico’s drug violence last year. Many of those murdered were police officers and soldiers.

Since Jan. 1, 2009, there have been more than 40 murders in Juarez. A brief sampling of those murders follows:

Jan. 5…The lifeless body of Jose Ivan Vasquez Lopez, was discovered inside a trash can. Lopez had been beheaded.

Jan. 7…The body of Ricardo Arturo Alvarado Contreras, was found lying in a vacant lot. His hands had been hacked from his arms.

Jan. 6…Prominent attorney Mario Escobedo Salazar, was found shot to death inside his office. The bullet-riddled body of his son Edgar Escobedo Anaya, was found outside the office, police discovered 14 spent shells near the body.

Jan. 13…Guillermo Pizarro Marceleño was shot to death as he sat eating inside El Trebol restaurant.

Jan. 14…A 19-year-old student at the University of Ciudad Juárez, was shot to death with an AK-47, on the side of the road. Jaime Alejandro Irigoyen Flores, had been kidnapped from his home two days earlier.

On Jan. 16, the El Paso Times offered a very interesting opinion poll on their website. The poll asked the question “With violence raging in Juarez, is vigilantism the answer?” What follows are the results of that poll after a total of 2,547 respondents:

“Yes, nothing else has worked, and it’s time for the people to take matters into their own hands.”…59%

“I’m not sure, but at this point, it’s probably worth a try.”…29%

“No, innocent people could get hurt.”…16%

While the results may be a bit shocking to some, it speaks to the fear and frustration that people are feeling with so much violence taking place just on the other side of the border. Many Juarez residents, including a great number of police officers have come to El Paso, seeking refuge from the cartels.

Whether or not the Juárez Citizens Command will actually emerge as an actual force to confront the cartels, remains to be seen. However, the interest shown in their announcement and the positive way in which many already view them, is another sign that the government of Mexico is dangerously close to losing all control of that country.

The drug cartels which now control large portions of Mexico and operate in nearly 200 U.S. cities, represent a clear and present danger to every citizen of both countries. None of us can afford to ignore this issue any longer.

I find the math shocking 59+29+16=104%

The direct result of the WOD. I hope the Pharisees are happy History is replete with examples of men seeking power and money without drugs having any connections. Drugs are merely an accessory not the cause. Mexico was corrupt and full of bandits long before the WOD.

As a libertarian, I believe in the legalization of pot. It’s no different than legalizing alcohol. During the prohibition, there were “speakeasy’s”, “bathtub gin” and “stills” throughout America. Guys like Joe Kennedy made fortunes and financed his son(s) rise in politics. He could have been put out of business (or never had a business) if there were no prohibition. Imagine America without the Kennedy Cartel! Imagine what kind of vile political scum can/will come of illegal pot and the billions it generates to it’s cartel!

Oh yes, past time. I grew up on the Texas border, don’t think there haven’t been lots of shots being fired across that river already. Not to mention rancher friends protecting themselves and their families on our own ground.

When the government does not do its duty, the people must take action or be slaughtered. Do you think I’m going to sit around on my hands while roving bands of Mexican outlaws do their will ON OUR GROUND??

I believe it was AuntB that posted some graphic pix of the results of what’s going on, that should rattle some of your cages a bit.

While stationed at Ft. Bliss (’68), we’d go across the border for a drink. A little bar called the Kentucky Club, no less.

We also took in a show in Paso at a theater near the border. Between movies, there was a pipe organ that came up from under the stage and filled the air with beautiful music.

Guess those days are long gone, just like the rest of this country.

Juan McCain has a solution. Just bring all of the Mexican thugs to the US. Support them, pay for their health care, give them free housing and ask them to please, please, please be nice!

Yep, legalize drugs and tax them. Criminals would at least be poor. Wonder what drug dealers would turn to?

Time for the old West to rise again. Throw out the liberal governing bodies and start civilizing the place. That is the only way we can bring law and order to the lawless.

“Mexico is an absolute mess. Unfortunately, the leaky borders mean we are inheriting that mess.”

....yep, and it’s gonna get worse....remember the “boat people” of the 70s?....get ready for the “foot people” from Mexico...there be so many that they’ll have to be turned back at gunpoint and they’ll resist at gunpoint....call out the National Guard and suppose the Hispanic members go over or go home?....Mexico’s collapse means another milestone on the road to the coming race war in America.

Has the United Nations demanded a ceasefire yet?

But seriously, folks, the disorder at the Border does mean it will be really hard for Presidente Zero and Congress to push for open-border amnesty anytime soon. Let in more feuding drug gangs? There will be so many calls and faxes to Congress, no one in D.C. will be able to order pizza.

I think its a good idea. And if you study Mexican history,,,it’s not THAT different than the situation in the pre-revolution days 100 years ago.

Mexico has had a long history of fed-up abused people finally rising up violently. Its not widely realized, but the Mexican revolution is one of the Bloodiest as a percentage of population in all modern history.

The Mexican government needs to sit up and take notice, or risk being the next Carranza.

Ay Chihuahua! and I can tell you,, admiration of Pancho Villa is very alive and well there. And the essense of Villa is someone who fights back. Don’t lecture me on whether you think Villa was a common criminal or a Mexican Robin Hood. Im referring to how *they* see him.

The stories are apocryphal. Such as, “Villa never became personally enriched though he easily could have”.

“Villa started by first killing a man raping his younger sister”

“Rich man got poor girl pregnant, Villa found him, forced him to marry her under threat of death,,,and promised to check back every year to be sure she was well treated.”

On and on,,, the narco-trafficantes were tolerated and even idolized when the regular people were left alone. But these guys will be dealt with very soon, because they’ve crossed the line and terrorized the normal “joes” down there. Pablo Escobar at least had sense enough to build hospitals, schools, sponsor soccer teams,, etc,,, hearts and minds,, so he had a lot of people who were on his side later while being hunted. The Mexican gangs have screwed theirselves. Its far from over,, but they are about to get hit hard.

This vigilante movement might be very real,, and it might spread. This is def going to be interesting, and Americans in the southwest really should buy a pistol if they are some kind of oddball, and don’t already have one.

Oddly, i think Obama (i shudder to think what the Mexican nickname for him will be) will be pretty rough on them. Leftists are fairly quick to resort to force to prove how they aren’t wusses.

This is just the opinion of one set of headlights on a busy city freeway.

"Wonder what drug dealers would turn to?" Robberies, break-ins, hold-ups, bank robberies, looting. You can't take the scumbag out of a scumbag.

I grew up in El Paso and went to college at then Texas Western.

You saw the movie at the Plaza Theater which has the mighty Wurlitzer. Remember the starry roof?

Before they rechanneled the river you could park and walk across, paying 1 cent to go over and 2 cents to come back.

I spent many afternoons at the Kentucky Club (on the left as you go over). We also spent many evenings getting hammered at the Lobby.

In 1960 a shot of tequila was a nickel. You could take a date for dinner and drinks with rum and cokes at 35 cents and a great steak for $1.85.

You could buy a skull ring or a leather wallet at one of the many street stands and even what we called "hot books".

An afternoon spent down at Pig Alley watching porn flicks like Candy Barr and the Vacuum Cleaner Salesman.

Ahh, the good old day.

Mexico is close to becoming a failed country on our border. That will not be allowed. Our military has to go in and straighten things out. Iraq is basically over. All that heavy stuff has to be put on freighters. Ship it to Galveston. A lot of Mexicans will join our military. After learning how to read, write and speak English. Then they will fly around here to various military tech schools.

More guys will get married down there than in Iraq. Same civilization you know.

Did you know that car sales are going through the roof in Iraq? Ford should build a plant there. No unions!
