The guys hawking Barack Obama T-shirts and trinkets on the corners of downtown Washington have some new competition in the selling frenzy building up to the president-elect's inauguration Tuesday Corporate America.
Companies ranging from global giants like soda and snacks maker PepsiCo to a local grocery chain offering cakes with Obama's face in icing are jumping on the Obama commercial wave. Others, like the Swedish home store Ikea, are hoping consumers take Obama's mantra of "change" to heart so much that they go out and buy furniture to mark the change in the White House.
It is relatively rare for corporations leery of alienating consumers with any whiff of politics to associate themselves with a political figure, according to marketing experts. But at a time when many Americans have snapped their wallets shut during a grinding recession, the groundswell of popularity that Obama has generated with his upbeat campaign themes, along with the symbolism he brings as the nation's first black president, are likely too good for many battered retailers to pass up.
"This occasion is more exciting than most presidential inaugurations," said Noel Hankin, senior vice president for multicultural relations for Hennessy, which is selling a limited edition bottle of cognac with the number "44" on it to mark Obama's spot in the line of presidents. "We think this is an appropriate way to celebrate and honor him."

And don't give me that baloney about hurting American jobs and the economy. We're way past the point where that matters in relation to the highjacking of our country.
It kind of reminds you of Jurassic Park doesn’t it? All of the hype and money spent in the place ends up becoming an unmitigated disaster.
Like watching a train wreck in slow motion...
I am as guilty as anyone of doing that. Please forgive me.
Look, FRiends, even at our worst we are still better than they are at their best. Yes; we are getting battered and banged around. It's a test of our mettle, and a way for God to show us through ourselves just how resilient, forgiving, and persevering we truly are.
Do not be humiliated but humbled. See in this just how important your one--not lone--voice, vote, and will to fight truly are to and in the grand scheme of things. Seek until you find the larger picture in the detail that is you. Speak up so that those who stand beside you will take courage.
Yes, it may appear we are surrounded. GOOD. Borrowing from the words of those who repeatedly stood far more bravely and Faithfully in the face of situations far more grave and dire than those we face, “That simplifies the problem,” and, “Now we can attack in all directions.”
FRiends? This IS their best game. Not just their best response to us, their only response to us. They sold their souls for this “win,” while we steadfastly clung to ours. Like their man said of us, “They cling to their guns and religion.” Tangibles. Sure enough.
On the other hand, they, like him, cling to what? The winds of change? What is that?
Apparently, they have yet to grasp the axiom of "the more things change, the more they remain the same. ;)
Keep the Faith. Really. It is enough.
I can proudly say that I avoided all Pepsi, Lipton, and Frito-Lay products at the grocery store yesterday. It’s the least I could do.
The thing I can’t handle about all this is the left is acting like this is some kind of coronation.
Many of these businesses are staffed by conservatives, but are simply responding to their customers. My wife owns a business, and she has been recently selling an item with Obama’s image on it. She calls me throughout the day to tell me about the blissed-out Obamatons who buy the product. It is just a marketing angle, and nothing more. She is hardly “contributing” to Obama. Quite the contrary.
Does she also sell other objectionable things like images of kiddie porn? It’s called having a standard. Some folks would make money off their kids bodies, other people chose a standard to live by. It’s the great American way.
To equate child porn with an image of Obama is ludicrous. At the very least, you are trivializing child pornography.
I might boycott a company because the company has expressed a political or ideological alliance with Dems or Obama, but the image itself is neutral. In this case, some of the profits will fund the reelection campaigns of Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn. But this is none of the business of the Obama supporters buying her product, nor should it be their business.
LOL,if you think so.
In regard to what?
Sounds like good old fashioned capitalism to me.
Capitalism isn't perfect
