Mayor Sam Adams acknowledged today that he had a sexual relationship in 2005 with an 18-year-old man he had mentored. He said he lied when asked about it in 2007 and told the young man, Beau Breedlove, to lie about it, too.
The revelations come nearly a year and a half after Adams and Breedlove insisted, in the weeks after rumors surfaced in summer 2007, that their relationship was strictly platonic.
Adams, who is openly gay, said he had acted as a mentor to Breedlove, then 17, at a time when the legislative intern was struggling to come out of the closet.
Adams said the sexual relationship did not start until after Breedlove turned 18. Breedlove, now 21, could not be reached for comment.
"I didn't get into public life to allow my instinct to help others to be snuffed out by fear of sleazy misrepresentations or political manipulation," Adams wrote in an open letter to Portlanders in September 2007. "I understand the need for good judgment, and I work very hard to keep within the bounds of propriety -- as I did in this case."

Yeah, right waited until the kid was 18. What a pervert, whether the kid was 17 or 18.
Adams was elected Portland mayor in November. What brought this to the forefront now was a weekly newspaper which claims that the “young man” was under 18 when the homosexual relationship started.
If the kid’s name is “Art” they could revive the “Expose Yourself to Art” campaign from the old Bud Clark days.
Breedlove? Who writes this sh1t?
Sorry, I just can’t make it through this article; does it mention what his party affiliation is.
Of course, you know if he’s a Republican he is to chased from office.
If he is a Dem he will be eligible for the congressional medal of honor ~ starting tomorrow.
Shouldn’t Sam Adams suffer the same fate as Mark Foley?
I doubt the Dems will hold him to that same standard, though.

I notice the article does not mention the guy’s political party, but I can guarantee if he’s the mayor of Portland, Oregon he is not a Republican.

Can’t you all understand that this is a personal matter, and he needs to get back to the work that the people of Portland hired him to do?

My searching does not find a political affiliation. However, knowing Portland (which is a bad as SF for sexual deviancy) I would bet he’s a Democrat. It appears that city elections are “non-partisan” which means a political party is not declared.
That's the gist of many of the comments on the Oregonian web site in response to the article.
