Geithner: "I used Turbo Tax" (Video)
Timothy Geithner ^ | 1/21/09 | Timothy Geithner

Check this out. When asked by Grassley if he used tax software, he emphatically states that the problem is his fault and not the fault of the software. Then Grassley asks him if the software asked him about the additional income. He replies: "Not to my recollection."

So which is it? The software's fault or his?

Just another beautiful slimebag selection for the Obama administration. I guess when you are mentored by, and associated with, thugs and criminals, you just get used to having lots of them around you.....

Intuit issues a press release today refuting him. Here’s a good commentarty from Karl Denninger:

Hehehehehee......

“SAN DIEGO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU - News) today released the following statement responding to Capitol Hill testimony by Treasury Secretary-designee Tim Geithner regarding his use of TurboTax software. It can be attributed to Dan Maurer, senior vice president and general manager of TurboTax.

Each year, millions of Americans use TurboTax to accurately prepare and file their federal and state tax returns. The software helps taxpayers report their income and find the deductions and credits they’re entitled to claim.
“TurboTax, and all software and in-person tax preparation services, base their calculations on the information users provide when completing their returns. TurboTax also has built-in error-checking tools that routinely catch common taxpayer mistakes.”

Yes, I emailed Intuit when I heard Geithner’s testimony.

I know for a fact that TurboTax will throw up on you if you enter a W2 with a ZERO for withheld FICA tax. You can continue and force it to accept your “zero” FICA withholding but it does throw an exception at you, since that usually is a mistake (you fat-fingered the data entry.)
I have personally used TurboTax for roughly the last ten years and have filed and paid SE tax when appropriate.
Draw your own conclusions......

Lemme get this straight: He’s saying Turbo Tax didn’t ask him to pay taxes on the IMF income? What kind of bozo believes that? His defense is that if TT would have asked him to pay the taxes, he would have?

>> I know for a fact that TurboTax will throw up on you if you enter a W2 with a ZERO for withheld FICA tax.

My understanding is, he wasn’t paid as an employee, but rather, as a contractor. So he didn’t have a W-2 from IMF.

But the kernel of your comment is still valid. In TurboTax you enter self employment income, beginning with (and emphasizing) income reported on 1099 forms.

He most certainly DID get a 1099. That has been established.

Now, it’s possible to misallocate income from a self-employment income 1099 to some other kind of 1099 (say, interest). But you have to be either a total idiot, or crooked.

Which is it? Is Geithner a total idiot? Or is he crooked?

Either way — should he occupy a cabinet level position?

I think not.

I sure would like Turbo Tax to come to the front of the class and explain how detailed their software is on the topic of 1099 recipients.

This jackass flaunted his responsibility.
Now he is trying to blame software????

Please, Turbo Tax: Get on O”Reily or on Rush and explain how this moron ignored the instructions!!! Please!!

I’m just glad to know how seriously to take our federal taxes. I had been under a mistaken impression all these years.
