It's interesting to me that Obama didn't sign FOCA today, as forecast. My prediction is he'll do it tomorrow, when the networks won't have the video of the crowds at the pro-life march to run.

I’m glad this advertisement is getting some notice. I’d like to see it on all the major networks.

Home run!

I wonder if the reaction to the reaction to this will be one of those “the truth hurts, doesn’t it?” comebacks my Mom used to nail me with.

He can’t sign FOCA because it hasn’t been passed. But I heard a great speech by a black minister at the DC event today where he said a lot of the things the ad said. Also, our own bishop, trying to encourage us at our local march today, pointed out that if the abolitionists and others had given up after the Dred Scott decision, Obama would never be president today.

First his consorts in Congress must pass FOCA - which they will do. Then, he will sign it. Here's what it does:

The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would nullify all state and federal laws that “interfere with” access to abortion before “viability” as determined by the abortion provider. It would overturn partial birth abortion bans, eliminate parental notification, and force taxpayers to fund abortion.

FOCA will invalidate all pro-life laws that the Supreme Court has upheld since Roe.

FOCA creates a fundamental right to abortion.
FOCA would repeal the Hyde Amendment, allowing unlimited federal funding for abortion.
FOCA would overturn all the commonsense restrictions that Missouri has in place.
FOCA would invalidate state and federal laws protecting women and health care providers, including:
Full disclosure to the patient (ultrasound of the baby, information about pain inflicted on the baby or possible complications to the mother).
Parental notification or consent for minors seeking abortion Waiting periods
Restrictions based on fetal viability allowing for abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy Protections for doctors and nurses who decline to commit or assist in an abortion Protections for religiously affiliated hospitals and public hospitals that do not perform abortions Exclusions for abortion coverage from health care plans of federal employees.

Sounds like a pro-choice ad to me.

Good read!

Today I had to sit thru a viewing of the movie 'Roe vs Wade', with Holly Hunter, while substitute teaching (a Cultural History class of advanced students). The teacher wanted it viewed because "Today is the 36th anniversary of Roe v Wade and this could actually be REVERSED during these kids lifetimes!".

I considered asking the kids (11th and 12th graders) if they knew what 'Roe' was doing these days, but the class ended before the movie, which was fine with me.

On a positive note..when Holly Hunters character, 'Roe', said "I just can't give up another child" and a boy in the class said aloud "Oh, but you can kill it?". I wanted to stand and CHEER!

This ad should have ran in the general election.

Isn’t it a little late for this? The time to be running ads was BEFORE the election.

That’s strange. I would have thought Obama’s life story would make a good pro-abortion ad... Ok. That was harsh.
