Mother of Octuplets Has 6 Other Children
Fox News ^ | January 30, 2009

WHITTIER, California , Calif. — The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week has six other children and never expected to have eight more when she took fertility treatment, her mother said.

Angela Suleman said her daughter expects a big challenge raising 14 children. The good news, she said, is all the babies appear healthy.

"I looked at those babies. They are so tiny and so beautiful," Suleman told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

Suleman's daughter gave birth to the octuplets Monday at a hospital in Bellflower but has requested that doctors keep her name confidential. Media knew little about the woman until a family acquaintance told CBS' "The Early Show" on Thursday that the mother is "fairly young" and lives with her parents and her six children, including twins.

Okay, I’ll start.

Why does a young woman with six children living with her parents need fertility treatments?

Who is/are the fathers? No mention of boyfriends or husbands.

Who is paying for all this? She showed up at Kaiser already pregnant with implanted embryos.

Obviously she won’t be working anymore if she ever was so again, who is paying for all this?

This woman has 14 children, is young and lives with her parents.

And just whom do you think is paying for this woman’s experiment in being an uber-breeder?

And we didn’t even get naming rights.

Oh she is going to be working all right, somebody has to take care of all these children. It is NOW tooooo late to be worrying about the $$$$ as these children were conceived and born.

Issue should be playing around with fertility treatments.

“We have a huge house, not here,” said the man, who would only identify himself as Ed. “You are never going to know where it is.”

This guy does not know the media. OTOH, but staying recluse, they are going to deny the world a view it deserves, IMHO. And, the world is going to want to shower this family with THINGS, THINGS they are going to really need, like DIAPERS.

There is probably a back story to this:

Nowhere does it say the mother is “unmarried”. Is it possible the father of the children objected to her risking her life and the lives of the babies by carrying all of the implanted embryos to term???? Perhaps the couple is married but separated?

We should wait for the “rest of the story” before we stand in judgement.

JMHO

“We should wait for the “rest of the story” before we stand in judgement.”

Yes, but I don’t have my hopes up that this is going to turn out to be a self-sufficient family unit like the Duggars in Arkansas.

You said a mouthful. My moral considerations aside, aren’t the fertility treatments expensive? My guess is we all will pay for it. The sad reality is, while this case makes news because of the multiple births, we pay for an untold number of births to irresponsible women and men everyday. The first time you make a mistake, the second time you have a habit. And by rewarding this kind of behavior, our government encourages it.

Just announced on Fox & Friends: I think Doocey just said: “Father of children is a defense contractor in Iraq” Family does not like the publicity.

Couple this story with the *cloned dog*, the epidemic of *murderous mothers & fathers of toddlers* and all the other weirdness in the world...........the human race *endowed by God* is devolving at warp speed.

Alarming and depressing.

Yes - I agree we should not judge before we have all the facts. But, with all due respect, it would seem with 6 children already the young woman does not have a fertility problem. I do agree with you, we should wait for the “rest of the story” but I just have a gut feeling it’s not going to be pretty. BTW - and I mean no offense, you sound like my mother - Always looking for the good in people. I bet you are a really nice person.

if there is no father to pursue for child support, then either she has an extremely wealthy boyfriend, is an heiress with money to burn, or we all are paying:

according to the chart on page 4 at the link below, a mother of 6 children in Calif would be receiving $1,172/mo, (10 or more $1,629) under the CalWorks cash assistance program (plus childcare, medical, job training, foodstamps). CalWorks (formerly AFDC) cash assistance is limited to 5 years (but I think that the children themselves will still be covered until age 18).

Food stamp benefit levels range from $10 to $135 per person per month, with an average monthly benefit of $73.22 per person/per month. (page 15)

Not odd at all - quite a natural instinct to accept that our bodies are fully formed at conception, thrive, serve us and die.

If a living person wants to donate a kidney to a relative...it’s their business.

My revulsion is harvesting organs from accident victims to include a “vulture” watch over their dying.

I was actually shocked to find out she already had 6 little children. This woman will probably end up with a TV show on TLC, like Jon and Kate Plus 8.
