What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that ...

Shouldn't someone at this level comprehend, understand, and know that the 2nd Amendment doesn't mention "right to bear arms" in the context of hunting? How many times does it need to be stated that this is the right of the people to bear arms, and this right shall not be infringed.
No "ifs, ands, or buts," or Bambi's...

Perhaps he could start by not using liberal terminology.

I agree with you that he bears CLOSE watching.

Michael Steele is a dvout Mass-going Catholic, a former seminarian, and a Knight of Columbus. Are any of these - “Kennedy, Kerry, Harkin, and Pelosi” - that? Is the Pope like them because he’s Catholic too. I don’t think so.

“Oh, please. That isn’t necessary. What difference does it make what religion he is.”

Has a Catholic ever been RNC Chairman? That is a huge voting group and it DOES make a difference.

I have always been impressed by Steele as he inspires family in Maryland. As far as his racial background being of impact the young Republican engineer I have been working with didn’t even know Steele until I familiarized him with his positions. As a conservative he doesn’t focus on race. But since he is a black from Deeeetroit he will probably accept a border state guy and give him a chance.

He’s for affirmative action, for Roe, he’s not reliable on gun rights, and he’s tied to Mike Tyson. Why is everyone happy?

I see that you've come across the fly in the ointment. LOL
EV's that type of person who paints his house purple then insists that the rest of the neighbors do likewise.

Not everyone can be a hardliner, but some Republicans seem to have given up on the Constitution as written.

Steele is a mediocre Beltway insider, squishy on core principles, and his election is little more than proof that Obama is beating the Republicans like red-headed stepchildren. (Being both formerly red-headed and a step-child I can get away with saying that...)

Armies that are reacting to the enemy are losing the battle. Every time.

Winning armies get the initiative and keep it.

Enjoy your party.

Finally, a conservative leading the Republican party. Just heard him say: “Any obstructionists, get out of our way or we’ll run you over!”.

This group may indeed bring back conservatism. If they start taking the steps, I will support and follow.

And wow --- that skirt on Gov. Palin!

Maybe we should put a chairman from the most GOP state in since that’s obviously where we need work. /sarc

Yo, I SAID it wasn’t perfect but when down to two choices and the other one is quasi-stupid to be in that CC, geez! What do you want? This was the best outcome it could be! Or do you REALLY care?

Exactly.. If the writers of the Constitution where concerned about protecting hunting, they would have also protected, specifically, the general store, owning a fork, and cooking vessels.

I don’t expect a Ted Nugent/Charlton Heston “gun nut”. I do expect the standard bearer for conservatism to know exactly what the hell we want “conserved”.
