Threats send California octuplets mom into hiding

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California's octuplets mom, already jobless and receiving food stamps, has gone into hiding with her six older children because of death threats, her spokesman said on Wednesday.

Nadya Suleman, 33, has come under mounting public ridicule for expanding her already large family via fertility treatments that led to the January 26 birth of six boys and two girls at a Los Angeles-area hospital.

That criticism has mushroomed as it was reported that she was divorced, living with her parents, unemployed for several years, receiving disability checks for three of her children -- one of whom is autistic -- and collecting nearly $500 a month in food stamps.

Death threats go a little beyond criticism.

But using this case to argue for taking the children away from her by force because she is on welfare is using a bad case to make bad law.

The children shouldn't be taken away because she is on welfare, which incidentally, she denies. She says it's not welfare, it is "help to those who need help."

The children should be taken away for two other reasons:

1. She is obviously mentally unbalanced and out of touch with reality.

2. She is not physically cabable of providing the level of care required to keep 14 children clean, fed and supervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Not to mention seeing they receive proper health care, doing the housework required to provide them with a clean and healthy home and doing all the other thousands of things necessary to provide a proper homelife and upbringing.

She carried them and she took the risk of birthing them. When offered a chance to abort some she said no. That’s courage in my book. You don’t take away a woman’s children from her by force without exploring every other option available first; mental and spiritual health counseling, community help, etc. It sets a terrible precedent and gives liberals more of an excuse to interfere in other families’ lives. Then anyone could come into YOUR home and claim you are inbalanced for some reason and take your children away.

Bad cases make bad law. The pro-aborts are already using this case to argue that the pro-life position is irresponsible. Conservatives shouldn’t add flame to the fire.

Not going to be hard to find her as someone could just follow the trail of babies that she leaves in her wake.

Living on her own isn’t important as it’s not our business if her mom wants to support her daughter and her football team. It does become a matter of public issue when welfare is involved.

And no, sterile those on welfare is a far cry different ‘if you have money to pay for fertility treatments, you don’t need food stamps’.

I never said anything about abortion.

I did say it is obvious she is not mentally or physically capable of giving 14 children proper care.
(not to mention her inability to provide for them financially)
She’s not courageous - she’s just plain mentally unbalanced and no doubt foolish and stupid to boot.

And just imagine - her and her 14 kids in her parents modest 3 bedroom home - what was she thinking?

As far as her “rights” as a parent -
What about the rights of the children to have proper care?

LOL! I have a feeling this is less about any 'threats' than it is about a publicity-hungry, psychopathic baby making machine.

Given how she’s screwed the taxpayers, and will continue to screw all of us with her vile, dependent and, in many cases, possibly criminal litter, Duck Lips is getting what she deserves.

I brought up abortion because she refused it due to courage. She was pressured very hard to kill some of them, but refused. It takes a special kind of courage to carry and birth multiples, even twins or triplets can risk the mother’s own health and life, much less eight. The fact that they all survived too is testament to some courage there, to eat well and take care of herself so they would have the best chances to survive.

I agree she probably has issues but are you going to take this case and use it as a precedent to take away all the children of millions of women today who also have “issues” in the days of Godless feminism and family disharmony?

It’s still too early to tell whether she will be able to properly care for the children once they are home. It would be fine by me if she were offered counselling and legal help to consider adopting some of the children out. She might even agree once the real work starts for her round the clock in caring for them and she might realize herself at that point that it’s impossible to go on and make her own decision for adoption. However she cannot be FORCED to do any of this, or you will open the door for the government to come in and do the same thing to other families, maybe even to your own relatives.

What about the situation where a woman gets pregnant with twins or triplets and the husband is so overwhelmed he leaves the woman and finds someone else. Will you take one of the twins away or two of the triplets away from the woman because there isn’t a man in the picture and she might get overwhelmed? Who makes these decisions in what should be a private situation?

I think it’s odd that the same people who wanted Terri Schiavo murdered are also the same people making death threats against this poor woman. There is an oppressive cloud of hate toward people who might be dependent on someone else for their care. Last time I looked dependence on another was not a mortal sin.

To call eating well and not killing babies “COURAGE” is to abuse the meaning of the word.

She is not a hero and she is not courageous - she is a juat another selfish idiot who has pursued her own immature fantasies and desires without consideration for the impact on others.

The welfare of her fist six children and for the additional eight children she brought into the world were secondary to her own self gratification.

So you think abortion is courage?

Lady, you need to grow a heart.

Amazing how freepers will question the MSM like crazy, unless they want someone’s head on a stake for taking government assistance. I don’t like the welfare state, but you sound like a heartless creep right now. Judging by the comments I’ve seen on here by decent (normally) people, I have no doubt she’s getting death threats. The number of people on here that have tried to contact her would constitute harassment. You don’t have any FACTS backed up by evidence, but you automatically assume everything she does is somehow taking a dime out of your pocket and must be evil. I have no problem with criticizing the woman as long as you have something to back up your claims. You’re backing it up with assumptions based on what you think she must be doing.

The woman is obviously mentally unbalanced according to her mother. Why offer her on a guillotine to the pro-death movement to use as an excuse to defend abortion or sterilization? There are plenty of religious groups who will likely try to help her. But, that would probably be evil to accept that help too. And, the woman wouldn’t need an “image makeover” if she didn’t have people making all these assumptions about her and spreading crap they have no way of backing up. I don’t know what the woman has actually done over her life, other than she has a B.S. degree and was working on a Masters, how much money she’s made, or how much assistance she’s received, and you don’t either. You don’t know how much her father has (supposedly he’s got some money). So, there really isn’t anything to hang her for (hard facts I mean).

So her kids got disability they were legally allowed to get. My parents got that, along with help from the crippled children’s fund when I was a kid too, and it was a dang good thing or they wouldn’t have been able to afford to save my life. Sometimes, it isn’t a horrible thing to help someone out. We were a very self-sufficient, conservative family, yet, GASP, we once accepted government help for a time. Good thing you weren’t around to send us e-mails and hiss and spit.

Just have the facts before you assume everything the woman does is costing you something or justifies intimidation and harassment. It might be you someday who needs help and gets on the wrong side of an activist’s political statement. Like I said, I don’t like the nanny state either, but people are still human beings. The case for government assistance being out of control can be made without making shit up about a woman no one knew before she dared have a bunch of babies instead of killing some of them off. There are even mentally unbalanced people that still don’t deserve a public lynching and made up stories about them. Now if you have evidence to back up all the claims you’ve made about her motives, money, and evils, present it. Otherwise, admit you don’t really know and she’s just become a poster child for your anger at big government.
