In these times of dire economic trouble, we're all watching President Barack Obama. Six hundred thousand jobs disappeared last month alone. Decisive action is needed but this president does not act alone. He made that clear in his campaign. Obama is a community organizer, and we're his community; we have our part to play.
How does an ordinary citizen affect anything as massive as an economic meltdown? Last Sunday, 10 of us met in the College Park home of John Allen in response to a request from our president. All across the country, people were congregating at economic recovery house meetings.
Most of us in that living room had never participated in politics before the Obama campaign. Yet there we were, spending a cozy Sunday afternoon sitting in a crowded living room watching Obama present his plan via online video. Next, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine answered questions. As the videos ended, we turned to one another. Now what?
When we donated to the campaign or worked the phone banks, we were told the real work would begin when the election was over. Here we were. We could call senators and make our voices heard. Then what? Obama hadn't asked us specifically to do anything, but we suspected that by gathering us together, he knew we'd think of something.
The recession is still mostly invisible in the middle-class world of Silicon Valley, but it's there when you look. Four of us were looking for work, two recently unemployed, two others trying to re-enter the work force after an absence. Kathy Stanley, recently unemployed and part of that alarming statistic quoted above, talked about recently joining a job-seeking club.

Harry Reid slipped this in after Obama made the comments about not going to Vegas.
People get ready,
There’s a train a-coming
Don’t need no ticket
You just thank Harry Reid.
People get ready
For the train to VEGAS
Picking up passengers
on the California coast
Faith in Obama, now that’s the key.

You are 10000000000% correct in your assessment. Wow, how pathetic has our country become?
It’s almost enough to make a grown man cry...I think we need to hire that actor who used to dress as an indian and cried about all the garbage being produced but put him outside of the White House holding the Porkulus bill and crying about the fleecing of the citizens...
Why am I not surprised...that the author and her acolytes are under the spell of New Age Bullshit?
They rejected the God of their fathers many decades ago. Now that they are aging, they desperately seek some meaning to their miserable lives. And, predictably, they have fallen prey to a charlatan...and contend that theirs is the only true wisdom.
Where is James Jones and his Kool-Aide when we need it?
“Maybe holding concerts for Stevie Wonder and using Air Force 1 every time he needs a pack of smokes would be a good place to start cutting back.”
My sentiments exactly...the whole WH concert thing really burns my a$$ considering how much the security will cost alone!! Obutthead is just so unbelievably blatant in his bloated opinion of his own importance!
