Reconnect with Scouting
scoutingfriends ^

Posted on 02/17/2009 11:06:02 AM PST by flyfree

For nearly 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has taught timeless values, strengthened leadership skills, and guided America’s youth on their journey to adulthood. But, no Scout ever takes that journey alone. BSA Alumni also include supportive family members, dedicated volunteers, professional Scouters, and the tens of millions of Americans that benefit from Scouting in their communities every day. If you are—or have ever been—active in Scouting, we invite you to reconnect. Join us as we prepare to celebrate our biggest milestone yet, our 100th Anniversary. Visit www.bsaalumni.org to reconnect, rekindle and re-engage with Scouting.

I have tried to find out how I can contribute money to a specific Boy Scout Troop. But to no avail.

I’m a long time Scouter and believe whole heartedly in the program, principles and ethics associated with Scouting. If only the nation could undergo some “reconnection” as well ...

Your best bet on donating to a specific troop is to contact that troop. If you don’t know anyone there anymore, contact the local council and they can refer you.

My 7-year old joined the Cub Scouts in October. We are right now working on his first Pinewood Derby Car. I'm having the time of my life reliving my childhood through him. And I just turned 50 so I need this as much as he does.

I only wish I stayed in scouting longer. I went through Cub Scouts and did one year of Boy Scouts. Then a girl came along and showed me there was more to being a boy than things like scouting, putting saddle soap on your baseball glove, collecting baseball cards, and building plastic models. Ohhhh what would I do to have those years back.

Ah, the Boy Scouts.

Eagle Scout with two Palms here.

I well remember Boy Scout camp in the summer. Went for 4 years and was a counselor for 4 years.
Wonderful times.

Still give generously to the council where I was.

The Boy Scouts need financial help now more than ever.

If you can, GIVE.

A few years ago my son-now a second class scout with one merit badge coming entered the Pinewood Derby. He came in first in his den and 5th in his pack. I was so happy-it was the first time I had won something in 50 odd years.

I am an assistant scoutmaster and soon to be merit badge counselor.

Best moment; 1995 at my brother’s wake (he was Assist. Scoutmaster at 79) when five young men told me if it weren’t for my brother and me they would all be in jail right now and thanked me.

I am an Eagle and a long time Scouter. My goal was to get the older Scouts to plan and execute on High Adventure Scouting. They planned white water rafting, snow camping, survival camping (3 days, 2 nights - max 10 pounds carried), and of course 7-10 day Sierra backpacking. With this, we were prepared to go head to head with any wiley girl. Most of our Scouts made Eagle and stayed until they were 18. And several are now in the military (one is a Seal).

The great thing was that the younger Scouts really looked up to these guys and the olders Scouts taught and looked out for the younger ones. Our older Scout are a pretty tough bunch of guys (I mean that in a good way.)

BE PREPARED.

Former Troop founder and Committee Chair - two sons both Eagle and Order of the Arrow. Tons of work, but the rewards are priceless. Still contribute to the local council even though we moved away years ago. I still miss going to summer camp with the boys. Watching them grow in confidence and leadership was a thing of beauty that I will always treasure. We had a small troop but in 8 years we saw 16 boys reach Eagle.
