go out into any sandy, grassy field look for small round holes in the ground. there is where you will find tarantula. the big ones will always be female. Used to catch them as a child in Fort Worth.

Isn’t that great?!

I may not be a true Texan, but I’m a Texan by marriage.
A Texan-in-law? ;o)

I love that state!

Thank you for the ping, Meek!

By all means, keep the CW going forever...it accomplished nothing and you want to do it some more. Do you realize Stand Watie and his compatriots wanted only to be a sovereign state and part of the USA with it’s laws the same for them? They thought they could accomplish that with the Confederacy. Even Stand Watie realized the folly of that:

“Shall I continue to encourage them,

or shall I at once unveil to them the dread truth

that our country is to be hopelessly abandoned,

and that they are to receive

the reward of poverty and ruin

for their unswerving fidelity to the Southern cause?”

Letter to S.S.Scott, Confederate Commissioner of Indian Affairs from Brig.Gen.Stand Watie Aug.8, 1864

Take the advice of another ‘native’.

General Ely S. Parker, a member of the Seneca tribe,
drew up the articles of surrender
which General Robert E. Lee
signed at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
Gen. Parker, who served as Gen. Ulysses S. Grant’s
military secretary was an educated attorney who was once
rejected for Union military service because of his race.
At the meeting, Gen. Lee was at first taken aback
at the presence of an Indian being in such a position.
After he got to know Parker,
Lee is said to have remarked to him,
“I am glad to see one real American here.”

Parker replied, “We are all Americans.”

Welcome home FRiend. What part of Texas are you living in?

We're in North Texas. DFW area. The area reminds me a bit of what California used to be when I was a kid. Lovin' it.

It’s a start. It won’t be worth anything until we repeal the 17th amendment.

The Indians of today certainly haven’t ‘lost’. They’re raking it in on the backs of their ancestors who lost. But it wasn’t all the fault of the white man. It’s about greed and exploitation, and there was plenty of that within most of the tribes. The civil war within the Cherokee nation is what destroyed them.

Yes they are.

But to live in the past and say the “white eyes” destroyed the Indian nations and we should hate the American for it is foolish. The American Indian was over powered and over matched they couldn’t have won.

The American Indians that have chosen to be Americans are the smart ones.

My comment did seem a bit rude didn’t it? :^|

Living in town, I haven’t seen any tarantulas, still a few scorpions though.

Guess I have to cross Texas off my list. We have big, black 6-7” scorpions in the summer. Taranatulas and Scorpions, no way.

...but you all are about to be invaded from the south as a civil war seems to be breaking out across the border.

If you take the Fed Guvmint out of the equation, I reckon Texans would take care of that little matter in no time flat.

Things to do after secession:

5. Restore Constitution sans Amendments 16, 17 and 23.
6. Add new Amendment for Congressional and Federal Judge TERM LIMITS!
7. Add new Amendment prohibiting government of any form from monetarily competing with private enterprise. That is to include loaning money to the private sector.
8. Add new Amendment that ANY tax levied upon the people must first be approved by a 3/4 majority of BOTH houses of Congress. Make sure there are NO provisions for "emergencies" and such.

Conservatives always make the mistake of thinking everyone is happy being free and that no one will try to change a good thing. They always forget the power mongers and control freaks that long to lord it over everyone. We always sit on out hands until it is too late for anything but violence.

Bears repeating. I couldn't have said it better myself.

note: there are about 800 familes that trace our lineage to "the Long Walk from Georgia".)

What would we do today. Different breed back then, eh?

Melas, are you an import??? Kidding mostly. Do the terms "Live Free or Die" or "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" strike any cords with you?
