I would buy a shotgun before buying a rifle. If you had to buy a .308 bolt action, a Savage is probably the best deal for the money. Or you could get a milsurp for less money, and milsurp ammo to go with it. Combining both, you can get the very fast and rugged Enfield rifle in .308, made by the Indian Ishapore arsenal. This was the final development of the Enfield before even the Indians went to semi-auto rifles in the 1950s. But Enfields in .303 are also fine, and there is plenty of ammo.

I bought my Remington 870 at one Big 5 a few days ago. Got another 50 shells yesterday at another. I’ll be slowly building up to 1,000 rounds.

Gotta get more ammo for my SKS too. Bought that thing back when I thought Clinton was coming for guns. Still have about 980 of the 1,000 rounds I bought for that one.

When I was in the store buying ammo, another guy was buying a Mossberg 500 - for the same reason I bought my Remington.

"...We may die but we are not going peacefully. Death to tyrants. Is that clear enough?...

Hey, quit beating around the bush.
Your obtuseness has me confused.
Cease equivocating!

Seriously though: I live near downtown Houston, near Reliant Stadium. The ghetto begins about a mile away from my house. When the SHTF, those kind folks will sweep through my neighborhood like locusts. My main concern is convincing my wife and cat to leave town so that I can safely turn my home into a free fire zone.

I had a very interesting conversation with two complete strangers at my Super Walmart today as I was scouting for ammo. Both reccommended CZ’s.
I am about to re-enter the ranks of armed Americans, and I’m looking for a semi-auto with a hi-cap mag & low(er) retail price.
CZ may fit the bill perfectly. Thanx for the info.

CZ-52s are not high cap, they just hold 8 per mag in a single stack. They are very slim though, and work well for CCW.

Do you have any thoughts on the ap value of the 5.7 round without the strictly ap rounds?

The FN pistol would certainly fill the hi-cap role albeit at five times the price...

I think the 5.7 is a total hype job. Its ballistics are not much better than 22 magnum. This is a gun for collectors who already have 2 of everything.

To me, it’s all about cost and utility. I’d rather have 5 SKS’s than one super duper battle rifle. Ditto the CZ-52. Quantity allows you to cache some, or “arm up” friends who may arrive unarmed.

I have a CZ-52 too - great buy for the money. Another one that I like even better is the CZ-82 in 9mm Makarov. Very accurate and dependable, 12 round capacity, good size for concealed carry. Glad I have both!

I don’t have a mak cuz I already have a few .380s, but I also hear great things about them. LIke all milsurps, it’s wise to stock up on cheap ammo while we can. (As I”m sure you have done.)

They want to outlaw my AR-15. Do it. I don't care. You are not going to get it. Maybe from my cold dead hands after the ObamaMafiaGestapo jackboot street thugs gun me down and get it, but some will go with me. I am going to buy another AR-15 and a pump action shotgun shortly.

Well, this is something the President CAN take credit for in the way of ‘stimulus’. Abject fear of his extremism has driven the sale of guns X00% since election day.

Back in the 1980’s, when the Russian Maks hit the market, I bought one on impulse at a gun show. At $118 out the door for a modern double action pistol, I just couldn’t walk away.

I figured al the very least, it would make a good truck gun or to take along camping and fishing. But the more I shot it, the more I liked it. it is very accurate, and absolutely reliable. I have in excess of 1000 rounds through my Russian Mak without a single jam or failure to feed - that’s the only gun I own that can make that claim.

The CZ-82 is an improvement - smoother trigger, carries a few extra rounds, and better three-dot sights. The safety on mine was a little stiff (took it apart and cleaned it up with some Flitz), but no other problems. I have about 300 rounds through it.

Yeah Travis, I have enough ammo, except for 7.62 NATO. I figure that eventually supply and demand will balance out.

Yup. I bought a Remington 700 in .30-06 just this past weekend.
