Better...Worse... That's subjective. I liked the fact that tonight's show was not about "today's events" but rather that it was about trying to kick off a grass-roots patriotic movement.

Look, Glenn is going to take a lot of heat for the tears. Personally, I think they were real. I am of the belief that images of 9/11 should be played more, not less. On 9/12, a lot of people hung flags in front of their houses. Within a year, most of those flags were put, or worse, thrown away. There has been a flag displayed in front of my home EVERY day since 9/11, rain or shine. Yes, even in in the rain, because we are at war, and the war doesn't pause due to weather.

I know it is frowned upon to repeat oneself in the same thread, but:

Are those biscuit donuts? My mom used to make those when we went camping when I was a kid. That was 50 years ago and I can still taste them. Ummmmmmm Good!

Yes, they are. My grandmother use to make them special (from scratch)every Christmas Eve. We took turns shaking a paper bag with cinnamon and sugar.

We cheat now and use Pillsbury biscuit dough. They really are pretty good.

If only justice was so clear and quick now. With the John Wayne movies there was only right and wrong and right almost always won unless there was a lesson to be learned about wrong. Funny, I can’t remember any good lessons about wrong.

Some of you have expressed dismay that this march is too far away. Here is what the head of Freedoms First has to say:

“We are moving forward on our rally in Washington D C. We are working non stop in
preparations for this historical event to be held at the Washington Monument on Sept. 12th
and 13th of this year. Almost a half a million people have signed up thus far. As for the time, The million man march that took place a few years age took over 2 years to organize, we are trying to push this through as fast as we can. To protest in DC you have to have a permit and have approval to use a certain piece of land.
We called ahead of filing for these things. September 12&13 were the next available days they had.
The other org resistnet.com which was putting together a march for May 30 didn’t do this so they were refused their permit now they are joining with our group. So, we are doing this the absolutely as soon we can.”

I want to do it NOW, too, but we have to understand that you have to have a permit, and that a protest of this magnitude takes TIME and PLANNING in order for it to be successful!

Not to bore you, and you don;t have to read it all, but remember this(As good as our mentor, Mr. Wayne):

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife’s bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.

Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.

Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education.

They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged:

“For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor”.

They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books never told you a lot of what happened in the Revolutionary War.

We didn’t just fight the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own government!

Some of us take these liberties so much for granted.....we shouldn’t.
