Pope: Condoms 'Increase' AIDS Epidemic in Africa

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE —

Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday that the distribution of condoms is not the answer in the fight against AIDS in Africa.

Benedict has never before spoken explicitly on condom use although he has stressed that the Roman Catholic Church is in the forefront of the battle against AIDS. The Vatican encourages sexual abstinence to fight the spread of the disease.

"You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms," the pope told reporters aboard the Alitalia plane headed to Yaounde, Cameroon. "On the contrary, it increases the problem."

Some priests and nuns working with victims of the AIDS pandemic ravaging Africa question the church's opposition to condoms.

The pope also said that he intends to make an appeal for "international solidarity" for Africa in the face of the global economic downturn.

He said that while the church does not propose specific economic solutions, it can give "spiritual and moral" suggestions.

Describing the current crisis as the consequence of "a deficit of ethics in economic structures," the pope said, "It is here that the church can make a contribution."

Benedict's seven-day pilgrimage will take him to Cameroon and Angola.

Africa is the fastest-growing region for the Roman Catholic Church.

I think it's more basic than that...
the use of condoms instills a false sense of security...
when we all know that they aren't “foolproof!”

Under the pope’s plan, all Catholics in Africa will have AIDS...

Would seem the wise thing to do would be to provide condoms to the people while leading them to Jesus...

Morality and abstinece makes a lot more sense to a person when he is under the care and influence of the Holy Spirit...

“Lookit, AIDS exists all over the planet. Yet only in Africa is it a huge problem . Why?”

One reason is ignorance of many things but one story in particular that I read some time ago stated that there was a theory that if a Man with aids had sex with a virgin he would be cured. I don’t remember which country in Africa it was but that Old Wives tale was leading to many rapes and thus more infected people.

"And washing your hands increases the likelihood of getting sick. This is utter nonsense."

Yeah, that old pope is full of nonsense isn't he. What's having a genius IQ and being able to fluently speak in 9 languages and being educated in some of the best schools on earth got to do with his ability to figure things out, anyway?

Well, since there is no substitute for brains, let me help you out here.

(1). Since the programs for mass distribution of condoms to Africa began years ago the AIDS epidemic has continued to increase every year.

(2). Condoms cannot stop the spread of STD's, just as they cannot prevent pregnancies with any surety. Many women have gotten pregnant while her partner was wearing a condom, and many a man has gottn an std while using a condom. Those things carry a false sense of security with them because they are touted by the "medical community" and our own government to be the answer. But they are not the answer, they frequently fail.

So this sense of FALSE security is the reason why condoms actually increase AIDS in places like Africa, where everyone is uneducated and willing to believe any lie they hear from their government or from the "international community", hence they just go right on about their merry ways of ultra casual sex. In fact it is likely, given the AIDS statistics, that this false sense of security INCREASES their sexual activity, thus increasing the AIDS problem. Beginning to get it yet?

If you want to see the mindset behind this, do a google on “sex positive”.

Monogamy, abstinance, and promotion of sex only within the marital context are considered “sex negative” (ie, repressive) to the leftoids. It hampers their work for their “god” of this world. (John 8:44)

"Scientists have proposed a grab bag of ideas to explain how the disease may have leapt the vast chasm from monkey to man...”"

The simplest way is eating raw, or poorly cooked monkey meat. That's one explanation I read about. Of course, having sex with a monkey is another, most likely a freshly killed one, which isn't outside the realm of possibilities, especially when it comes to those of Muslim faith.

What an asinine thing to say. You would recommend that the Church promote hypocrisy, then. Tell them that abstinence is the ideal, but since you can't do that, here, have some condoms.

Sickening.

That is a provable explanation, and the most likely one.

Superstition, ignorance, crimes such as rape are all rampant in Africa.
As for the origin of aids likely from monkeys, it only makes sense. Eating monkey brain/ meat is a delicacy in some tribes.

See this link for excellent explanation of why condom use makes the AIDS epidemic worse. Their failure rate literally makes for a game of Russian Roulette.

"Just what the media portrays- Our church missions to China indicate that the chinese govt. Is allowing Christian Missionaries into the country in recovery ministriesSPECIFICALLY because they project that within 5 years, Chinas Aids problem will surpass Africa."

Well hell, if you report that your christian missionary reported that the Chinese government confided in them that in the future China could possibly surpass Africa in the AIDS problem then I guess that shoots down Fish's facts on Africa having the greatest AIDS epidemic, by far, as reported by every media outlet, government and medical community on earth. Not.

I wasn't suggesting your church pass out condoms...

But under your anti-hypocracy scheme, every young teenage and pre-teen girl that if forced into sex will get AIDS...And THAT is what is really sickening...,

They are having sex...They are going to continue to have sex...

You can tell them not to have sex because it is morally wrong...They will laugh at you...And they do...

You can tell them not to have sex because they will get AIDS...Look how well that has worked...

The idea is to keep them alive long enough to turn their hearts and minds to Jesus Christ...

"If it's true, it'd be less popular than proof that global warming isn't manmade. "

You mean global cooling don't you, considering the fact that the past ten years have been been cooler than normal. And real scientists are saying this may continue for the next 10 to 30 years.

This is a real big problem for the global warming nuts, and their Pentium 2 computer model which excludes the huge carbon sink (which absorbs all carbon produced by man within 4 years) called "oceans".

The so called "aids epidemic" in Africa is greatly exaggerated. My comment that "shouldn't everyone in Africa be dead by now" wasn't a joke. They should be if all these aids epidemic figures were true.

Jeez holy hell, I remember the days when “safe sex” meant extra padding on the headboard.

You’re wrong, and the Pope is right. Uganda’s success with its ABC program, which uses condoms only as a last resort, proves it:

You left out an important element in the equation - children. Unprotected sex leads to children. Parents die off but they leave behind two children to replace themselves along with half a dozen more who reach sexual maturity and the cycle continues. It's the old shampoo commercial, "you tell someone and they tell someone and they tell someone and they tell someone..."
