This is crazy, but not unexpected, taxes as a weapon. Maxine Waters was right, "they are going to take and run our companies".
I guess, I should never have expected congress to honor a contract, after all; that requires integrity.
Regardless of how you feel about AIG, the end result is the precedent being set that the government can retroactively change the terms of a contract between two private parties through punitive taxation.
Congress has given up even the pretense of honest leadership.
Wouldn’t this legislation qualify as a Bill of Attainder? Aren’t those unconstitutional (not that it matters to the gang of criminals in D.C.)?
“A bill of attainder was a legislative act that singled out one or more persons and imposed punishment on them, without benefit of trial. Such actions were regarded as odious by the framers of the Constitution because it was the traditional role of a court, judging an individual case, to impose punishment.”
William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice US Supreme Court.
only 90%? that is mightny nice of her.
Further proof that Nazi Pelosi has never read tthe Constitution or Bill of Rights. The Corrupt power mad hag monster, doesn’t even know that the Government cannot single out persons or groups for punitive taxations.
Funny story.... Guy I work with is a huge Democrat. Huge. Like, coming to work wearing an Obama T-Shirt, instead of the usual business-causal dress -type Dem.
Anyhoo, our company managed to get bonuses this year. And, as in the past, they were taxed at our top marginal rate.
Obamabot is livid! "This is RIDICULOUS! HOW can THEY get away with THIS! I was COUNTING on that money! etc etc etc" On and on he ranted. Calling people on the phone, anyone that came into his office, and so on and so forth.
Eventually, I just couldn't resist..."You know, there's an easy way to do something about taxes for next year's bonus...." He took the bait. "What's that?", he asked.
"Vote Republican." I haven't heard a peep about the "unfairness of it all" since.
SHHHH! Don’t mention the constitution around this administration or congress. That document is obsolete now. The only bit of satisfaction I get out of this is that many of those AIG execs and others in the finanncial industry voted for Obama and now are watching the chickens coming home to roost.
"Vote Republican." I haven't heard a peep about the "unfairness of it all" since.
Great story!
Everyone, that cheers this congressional action , needs to remember, If they can tax your neighbor, confiscate his earned wealth............your next.
Maybe not Bill of Attainder, but Ex Post Facto for sure...
Please, please Pelosi protect me from the evil executives whose companies provide goods and services that I want!
Pelosi, who hires Samoans and pays them less than Minimum Wages, should shut her pie hole.
Capitalism works. And CONTRACTS are a part of the process.
You’re not happy? Don’t hire the schmuck for your business.
Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s fair.
However, that will never happen as long as we have a corrupt media and acorn groups stealing elections.
This is why I like Glen Beck so well. He has fire in his eyes and challenges me when I listen to him. I (maybe foolishly)believe when we (conservatives) have had enough, we will stand up and fight . . . and win. Unfortunately, we have corrupt Repubs in office also and we need to oust all of them and insist that they listen to US. . . not big mouths of those forking over dollars to PAY for their pet causes. I am soooo sick of all of this.
Whose the real enemies here? One doesn’t have to be the sharpest knife in the drawer to figure it out.
Laura Ingram, subbing for OReilly last night brought up a good point ...such taxes aimed directly at individuals would violate the Constitutional prohibition of bills of attainder.
Exactly . . . and what would law would they decide to embrace next? Tax the air conservatives breathe? These folks are very frightening.
They want to control all salaries. This is just to prepare the public for that day.
yep!
With the exception of senior mgmt, I'm the oldest one here, more or less. While I enjoy working with the "kids"....sometimes it's hard to watch them learn things the hard way.
"My 401K is down! It's awful! This is Bush's fault!" ....well, first of all, who cares? you don't retire for another 40 years. Second, the market moves on future events, not past ones. Third, between the company match, and tax breaks, you're still way, way, ahead.
And so on. Sometimes it's like working in a drama theater.
Eveyone who intends to get money from the Small Business Administration should now think twice. If you business becomes too successful, the govt will take everything you make.
Hey Nancy! How ‘bout YOU giving your salary back to taxpayers!
