While not exactly a film buff, Gordon Brown was touched when Barack Obama gave him a set of 25 classic American movies - including Psycho, starring Anthony Perkins on his recent visit to Washington. Alas, when the PM settled down to begin watching them the other night, he found there was a problem.
The films only worked in DVD players made in North America and the words "wrong region" came up on his screen. Although he mournfully had to put the popcorn away, he is unlikely to jeopardise the special relationship - or "special partnership", as we are now supposed to call it - by registering a complaint.

The likelihood of this came out at the time the gift was made public. We now see how tasteless this Administration is in truth.

not only was it the wrong region for DVD, it should have been Blue Ray copies not DVD.
never mind......scrap the whole thing...the gift was completely bogus and no amount of fixing it would have sufficed.
This isn’t as bad as Hillary giving the Russians a button which she thought said “Reset,” but which in Russian translated to “Overcharge.”
I can understand a foolish White House protocol underling grabbing the wrong CD (even if it is a terribly low-class gift), but the State Department ought to have someone advising Hillary who can read and speak Russian.
It would have been easy for some British staffer to suspect the region problem, test it out, inform the PM, and watch the issue disappear.
But instead, they had him with popcorn and slippers, turning on the telly, and BANG!.
This was done to embarass O'bama.

I thought about the region issue when it happened. I wondered if THE ZERO gave him a set of Region 1 DVD’s. Looks like that’s the case. Yes, we are being “lead” by the biggest collection of imcopitents this country has ever seen. Even the Klinton guys were smarter than this bunch of thugs.
It was somebody on this very forum that conjectured that the DVDs were probably NTSC format Region-1 back when Obummer gave Mr. Brown the gift.
I think based on recent evidence...yes, yes, they could.
After the insult of returning Churchill and the banality of the gift,
I can see them subtly setting up this embarrassment for the Telepromptee.

Remember - it was the brain of the liberal press that told the brain of the liberal press that he was smart. They were so impressed by their own epiphany , they got a brain boner and tingles ran down their legs.
That doesn't mean the rest of us got off on their "smart" idea. Personally, I didn't feel a thing.
There is just one other minor problem overlooked by O'Bammy...PM Brown is going blind!!!
