“These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will. By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them. I hope President Obama’s comments do not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community.”

I was think that if a conservative republican had made that comment a simple apology statement would not suffice. The republican would be required to go on an apology tour from cable news outlet to cable news outlet and then the democratics would demand that the republican president sign a big spending bill where a portion would go to special olympics and if the republican president did not sign it then that would be supposed proof that the republican apology was not sincere.
One should be able to defend the mentally retarded from ridicule without idealizing them as “our world’s most precious and unique people”. They are people, and that is enough.
I don’t think 0 deserves to be called a good orator. At best I’d give him a B+ for his reading skills.

Nice how many people are coming to the defense of Special Olympics despite the role that the Kennedys had in founding the organization. Maybe Obama really is bringing the left and right together.
If it were up to Obama there would be no Special Olympics because the contestents would only have been temporarily alive.

When I forced myself to listen to his town hall charade the other night, I was embarrassed for him.
He sounds pathetic - how could anyone who poked fun at President Bush not howl with laughter at this dufus.
Of course the comments reflect O’s thoughts about those he considers less fortunate.
That’s the ticket, demand an apology tour and when he has completed the first couple of laps, declare he did not mean any of it anyway, just as they did with Michael Richards and Don Imus for racially charged jokes.
Just because he thinks of himself as a “black”, does not provide any leeway to make slighting remarks about another minority he seems to think is somehow inferior as human beings.
Cut no slack just because he is President.
