Believe it or not, Obama has done us a favor!

In just over two months, President Barack Obama has done what the Conservative movement for the past 40 years has been unable to do: expose the single, deadly fact that when you take government money, the government owns your soul.

Oh, there was some "outrage" (mostly on the Left) about the AIG bonuses---which, we now know, the Obama administration not only knew about but which the Dem Senators and Congressmen actually put in the legislation.

But in his knee-jerk and predictably socialistic threat to cap ALL executive salaries if the companies are somehow involved with the financial system, Obama has laid bare the inconvenient truth that whenever it wanted to, government ALWAYS had the power to boss around not only the banks, but many other companies too.

How about higher education? How long until the salary cap hits university presidents and administrators in the interest of "keeping tuition down and ensuring that all kiddies get to go to college?" That wouldn't apply to private schools, you say. To quote Robert Byrd, WRONG! Virtually every educational institution in America, save a handful of Hillsdales and Grove City Colleges, take federal bucks. If bank CEOs can be told what to do because they are "in the system," so, too, can university presidents.

Hollywood will escape, right? While Hollywood doesn't take much money directly, you can't shoot a film on public lands, use the military as a prop, or even get the streets of Washington, D.C. cleared for a chase scene without the compliance of the Feds. While it's likely these bozos will be the LAST ones targeted, they will eventually be targeted, nonetheless.

In short, Obama has quickly and effectively demonstrated the principles of allowing government into the free market. GM has to make crap battery-powered windup cars; mortgage lenders have to give a house to the local crack dealer; and colleges have to admit blazingly incompetent students to fill diversity quotas. And this is just the beginning.

To quote Dr. Phil, "America, how's Obama workin' out for ya?"

You are right that most Americans fail to appreciate the strings attached to government money. And if da goobermint forgets to attach the strings at first, they will go back and connect them retroactively. This was common knowledge fifty years ago, but somewhere in the Great Society Gold Rush days the fact got lost.

Hopefully there will be a reaction in 2010.

You have a great point. I believe every generation needs a Carter or Obama to show how wrong liberalism is. The problem I see here is that 51% of the people might actually like it. America is dumbed down quite a bit these days. I think things are going to have to get real bad for the majority connect the bad policies with the disaster.

According to a F&F report I just heard, the proposal is out there to cap ALL executive pay, related to bail-outs or not. I have not found a link and did not hear the full report, but I heard enough to make my head explode. What has happened to this country?

In a short period of Obama will make the stark reality of the limited effectiveness of government apparent even to the most liberal of citizens - and ultimately the wisdom of limited government that our founding fathers will be vindicated.

I just worry about how many here and around he world will have to die to restore that wisdom.

So do I.

I also believe that obama is starting one of his “purge trials” Where he, like every socialists that has attained power, starts getting rid of those who helped him attain power.

I agree with your analysis. And it is surprising the backlash has come as quickly as it has.

Uh. Wasn't the AIG bailout initiated by George Bush and his team of RINOs? We're screw politically because Team Zero can say they have been trying to make the best out of something that President Bush set in motion.

I don’t agree and here’s why. Those young skulls full of mush have been indoctrinated in a way you weren’t by the legions of leftists that have dominated the educaiton system for the last 30+ years and have gotten more power year by year. I don’t believe we have a citizenry that can actually think rationally and logically. It’s now all about emotion. Liberalism speaks to that emotion and manipulates it for their own political advantage. We are living the real life of The Night of The living dead but instead of dead zombies, we are dealing with emotional and irrational liberals.

“deadly fact that when you take government money, the government owns your soul.”

That’s hardly news to anyone familar with The Federalist Papers or history or who is, or knows or has ever spoken to a libertarian or a conservative. The question is; now that Wall Street has been bitten by the viper of the obvious, will it survive?

Unfortunately, for far too many, their dignity can be bought with free money and class envy.

The fact that Obama can talk about government dictating wages in an entire industry without immediate understanding and howls of rage bodes ill for us. This is not a good thing.

no one’s going to feel the bite faster or harder than physicians who want to jump into the arms of single payer; the trickle down will be obvious as such “luxuries” as widely -available emergency neurosurgery and medevac helicopters disappear , as was apparently the case when the actress fell on her head in socialized Quebec.

Excellent analysis, LS.

But let's not make Obammie the Commie sound like the genius behind this. He's just a hack. Let's give credit where credit is due. The politician who originally began the implementation of these ideas was Wilson. He didn't get very far, though.

It took FDR — never letting a good crisis go to waste — to radically redefine what John T. Flynn in “The Decline of the American Republic” refers to as “four magic words”:

“general welfare”
and
“interstate commerce”

As Flynn points out, FDR's administration so radically defined these terms, that, if a clothing manufacturer leased manufacturing space in a city in New Jersey sold his clothes in another state, not only could that company come under the control of the US government through the “interstate commerce” clause, but the totalitarians expanded that definition to put the owner of the manufacturing building under the control of the US government as well.

And we can all plainly see how the concept of “general welfare” has been bastardized (despite the specific enumeration of what the US government can do for the “general welfare” in Article 1, Section 8) by the US government to infest every nook and cranny of state and individual liberty as part of their push toward totalitarianism.

Is education in the list of federal powers?
How about subsidies for “green energy”?
ACORN or similar groups?
Bailing out businesses that took high risks that didn't pan out the way they wanted?

I'd contend that 90% of the entire “stimulus package” and budget plan for 2009 could be argued to be unconstitutional.

Referring to the main point of your analysis, let's hope the American people wake up. I do believe after studying the progress of the global totalitarians that the only that has stopped them from making a blitz has been their intimidation by what I call the American spirit, that love of liberty and detestation of oppressive authority. Thus their abandonment of the Kerensky/Bolshevik approach to domination and the adoption of the Ruskin/Rhodes/Fabian approach.

The American spirit exists in the souls of people in other nations as well, but it was born of the American experiment, thus the term I apply to that love of liberty and the belief that it must be defended.
