In Memoriam 24 March 1999 - 24 March 2009

Ten years ago, NATO commenced the 78-day illegal bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro), which was done without the approval of the UN. In the operation, code-named "Merciful Angel", there were 1002 Yugoslav Army soldiers and Serbian police killed; 2500 civilians including 89 children; while 12,500 people were wounded/injured. The estimated damage to property, including factories, schools, bridges, hospitals, roads, railways, etc. is estimated at about 30 billion US dollars. No Western politician or general has been held accountable for the brutal murder of a country, and not a single one will probably ever be. Also, no reimbursement for war damages has been made.

Below is a photo story of how Serbia marked this very painful day. At noon, sirens sounded to remind the citizens of this tragic time. Wreaths of flowers were laid at various locations.

In Merdare, war veterans paid respect to those who have given their lives for defending their own country.

To the fallen pilots in Belgrade.

Citizens gave a minute of silence at noon when the sirens were heard.

A memorial plaque was unveiled on the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It reads: In honoring the members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia who had given their lives during the Nato bombardments while defending the country.

A monument to the children who died.

The scars remain as reminders.

As we chanted last Sunday:

Save, O Lord, save Your people and bless Your inheritance; grant victory to the faithful over the barbarians. And protect Your commonwealth, by the power of Your Cross!

I am honored to know you, Alex in Belgrade. I have posted your thoughts “Serbia Remembers” on this 10th anniversary of the NATO bombing of Serbia here in America along with the photos of today’s commemorations. To be a Serbian-American or American Serb such as I am, on such a day, is a painful thing. I love this country, the U.S.A. But I am not blind to her flawed judgments. On behalf of the leaders of my homeland, America, I apologize for our actions against the Serbian lands in the former Yugoslavia, beginning with Krajina in Croatia, through the war in Bosnia, and on through the Kosovo tragedy. I hope that one day, our two nations and peoples can come to terms with the grievous rupture of our once grand and solid alliance and that the rupture is healed. My thoughts are with you today. May God be with the Serbs always.

A national disgrace, presided over by a national embarassment.

Clinton lied, our WWII friends and allies died.

Notice the one photo that shows the Greek flag.

On April 4, 1999, I attended an anti-NATO demonstration held in front of the White House to protst Clinton's barbaric acts against the Serbian epople. There were thousands there representing Orthodox and non-Orthodox Christians alike. As an American of Greek descent, I was proud to see the Greek flag held high with its glorious blue and white stripes and its white Cross brilliantly flying alongside the Serbian colors. That day in front of the White House Greeks chanted, "Ellas, Serbia, Orthodoxia!"

And to that I say, "Zivela Srbija! Zivela Kosvo! Zito Ellas!"

You have my sympathy. I have no Serbian ancestry, but have felt great guilt from the beginning of this tragedy.

I felt in the beginning this was a “Slick Willie” Wag-the-Dog thing, and felt great remorse. But after Kosovo, others are to blame and I still do not understand it.

The only explanation I have heard that sounds plausible, it the idea that the “Globalists” knew that Serbia would never accept their goal of a Global Government, they were and are Nationalist. For that I have great sympathy with the Serbs. I have read enough about their history to understand how treacherous their “neighbors” are.

I have know a few Americans who were of Serbian ancestry, and I admired all of them.

We will also remember. Vjecnaja Pamjat

I'm not ashamed of this country because I hold Bill Clinton solely responsible for the deaths of the Serbian people in that NATO operation. War to divert the public attention off him and Monica and our tax dollars and military personnel followed Wesley Clark's orders, and people died. Good ole Wesley was promoted by Clinton following his involvement in the Waco massacre. Not to diminish the atrocity of murdering innocent people, war or otherwise, but that meant nothing to Clinton. That is what was shameful. Now we have Clinton II. I'm truly concerned of another Waco incident while BO is in office.

Thank you, Texas Fossil.

You know, after posting this "tribute" this evening, I cried for the first time today.

I still can't believe it.

The Serbs did not deserve this.

Indeed. I love the amblem (Serbian eagle with Greek Shield).

PS The correct wording should be Grchka Dobrovoliachka Garda (Greek Volunteer Guard).

In 1999 the U.S. had an opportunity to send a consistent message to Islamic Terrorists worldwide.

Instead the U.S. deliberately sided with Islamic Terrorists on the European Continent, in an unprecedented effort at appeasing islamic expansion there..

In 1999,the Christan Serbs were the early warning system to what lay in store for the West/USA in the war against Islamic Terror. But the West/USA chose to align itself with Islamic Terror groups like the KLA and bomb the Serbs in what amounted to a combined 5th Crusade against Christians, and emboldening Jihadists world wide.

The West/USA was blind-sided and sent a Thank You Card postmarked 9/11/2001 sent via air mail delivery, ironically from followers of the" religion of peace" it sought to appease.

Given the aftermath, and continuing global war on islamic terror, the jihad is far from over, and the time for continued vigilance should be the mandate of all free nations.
