‘Chuck’ Teaches Us Not To Leave Our Gun At Home

Posted By John Lott On March 26, 2009 @ 10:47 am In Entertainment, Politics | No Comments

[1]

The TV series “[2] Chuck” this last week had some dialogue on the benefits of carrying one’s gun with them ([3] Chuck Versus the Predator). Chuck ([4] Zachary Levi)  formulated a mission at the Buy More electronic store and insisted the team — Sarah ([5] Yvonne Strahovski) and Casey ([6] Adam Baldwin) — not carry guns. Chuck then gets captured by a Fulcrum Agent…

Fulcrum Agent: (speaking to Chuck, Casey, and Sarah) You get one chance — drop your guns.

Chuck: Um, sir, they don’t have any guns. I personally put this mission together and I forbade them from packing.

Fulcrum Agent: (mystified) Why would you do that?

Chuck: (making things up as he went) I don’t know, I think that guns make things too easy, and I like my spies to be tough. Look, you’re not going to shoot anyone, right?

Fulcrum Agent: It would be unprofessional not to.

[Casey pulls out a gun and shoots Fulcrum Agent]

Chuck: You had a gun?

Casey: I always have a gun.

A lesson some might learn the hard way. Other Americans are glad they’ve had the same attitude Casey had about carrying their guns with them (for examples from this week see [7] here, [8] here, and [9] here).

Casey: I always have a gun.

I cracked up with he said that [Go! Casey!] -- being true-to-form Casey.

Adam Baldwin is great in that role.

I really WANT to despise baldwin. He is a girly-man libtard down the line.

But he is freaking funny in almost everything he does. Commercials, TV roles, pretty much everything. He is his generation’s Leslie Nielson.

Oh well...

I thought Adam, not Alec, leaned a bit conservative

Chuck is definitely on the very short list of shows I watch.

He shows up as being a Republican during a Google search. Wikipedia has him on a list of Republican actors as ‘Adam Baldwin, not a “Baldwin brother”.’

What-Chu Talkin' `Bout Willis?

I've heard just the opposite. This is ADAM Baldwin, not related to any of the "Baldwin Bros." I've heard that he's conservative, but more importantly, that he's really a terrific human being, involved in a number of charities.

I've been a big fan of his since "My Bodyguard," and I've really liked him in every role I've seen him play, but he was PERFECT as Jayne Cobb. He's the perfect comedic/action actor playing the (sort of) bad guy.

I love Chuck too. All of the cast is great. I also like how they give the Buy More losers some actual storyline and character development. I have gotten in the habit of calling Best Buy the Buy More.

Jeffster Rocks! If there is a soundtrack CD, Jeffster had better be on there. They were so awul they were good.

Of course Casey also has a picture of Ronald Reagan prominently displayed in his apartment on the show, too.

Adam Baldwin is not related at all to the libtard Baldwin brothers.

Adam is also known for being a staunch Republican, which is why his movie roles in Hollywierd have been limited.

I get it. But what are you doing leaving a comment like that without providing the photographic evidence to back up your claim?

See post #9. Sorry, it's the biggest picture I could find.

No, he isn't. You're confusing him with one of the liberal "Baldwin brothers", e.g. Alec et al., but he is no relation to them. From what I know of him he's mostly conservative/libertarian.

But he is freaking funny in almost everything he does. Commercials, TV roles, pretty much everything. He is this generation’s Leslie Nielsen.

That he is. If you really want to see him shine rent the Firefly sci-fi series and the movie Serenity, where he play a tough mercenary/smuggler named Jayne Cobb (yep, that's the right spelling!). Baldwin himself describes this character as "Sex. Muscles. Humor. Thuggery. Jayne."

I guess you missed the second episode of "Dollhouse" on Fridays. It stars Eliza Dishku. She was being hunted in the woods by an assassin. She finds someone to help her but he's badly wounded so he hands her one of his guns.

The exchange went something like this:

He: Do you know how to use that?:

She: [Checking the chamber for loaded cartridge] Raised with four brothers, none of them democrats.

I LOVE Dollhouse! Great show! I think that if Fox doesn’t screw the pooch, Joss, and all us viewers like they did with “Firefly,” we may just have a winner on our hands.

As always with a Joss Wheedon show or movie, there are some great lines in that show (like the one you just described!)
