Hillary's Mexico Visit Blunders Ignored by Old Media
NewsBusters ^ | March 29, 2009 | Warner Todd Huston

Thus far, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has made two diplomatic blunders during her visit to Mexico that the U.S. Old Media are shockingly uninterested in highlighting. One was a policy blunder and the other a cultural/religious one.

Clinton's first mistake was in imagining she is still a Senator that can make pronouncements on pending laws and policy plans instead of a mere envoy of the president, a mouth piece that hasn't the same freedom to invent policy prescriptions and laws that a Senator does. Last week, Clinton told Mexican officials that "we" -- as in the U.S. government -- are considering re-upping the so-called assault rifle ban because Mexico's drug violence is "our" fault.

When asked on March 27 about plans to return to the 1994 law banning "assault weapons" (a vague and illegitimate term at best), Obama's press secretary replied that he was unaware of "any plans" to reinstitute the ban.

Clinton obviously spoke out of turn making promises to Mexican officials that she was not authorized to make.

"Who painted it?"

The second Clinton gaffe concerned her abstruse question at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Thursday, March 26. Her question showed that Clinton was woefully uninformed about the most important feature of the church, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe enshrined there since 1531.

Catholic tradition holds that the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was miraculously imprinted by Mary on a cloak belonging to Saint Juan Diego in 1531. As Monsignor Diego Monroy brought Clinton before the shrine, Clinton asked her blundering question.

After observing it for a while, Mrs. Clinton asked “who painted it?” to which Msgr. Monroy responded “God!”

Now, perhaps Clinton being so woefully ignorant of anything religious isn't such a surprise, but for a Secretary of State to be visiting one of the most famous and important churches in the region, one holding a much beloved religious relic, without even finding her staff informing her "who painted" the image reveals a shocking lack by professionalism of both the Secretary of State and her staff.

Add this to the "button gaffe" of March 7 where Clinton's staff failed to find out how to spell a simple word in Russian and we are seeing a Secretary of State failing in the simplest of tasks making a mockery of our "diplomatic" outreach.

Sadly, the Old Media is letting her off the hook with aplomb.

Certainly we can also appreciate the humor in this

What no one is addressing on who is to blame for drug consumption in the US is where all these drugs are consumed.

My guess is that it is the black and hispanic ghettoes. the huge inner cities all across the US is where the drug consumption and the drug corruption lies.

Now to crack down on drug consumption would require black mayors and hispanic mayors and police forces to do the cracking down.

and it ain’t gonna happen.

But the media ignores this gigantic elephant in the room. So let’s just put up DARE bumper stickers and chant Just Say o and blame America for drug consumption.

You think the mayors of Los Angeles and Chicago and D.C. are going to really crack down on drugs?

I’m confused. The President of Brazil seems to think it’s blue-eyed white people who know nothing and cause all problems for the innocent brown and black people.

Well, I have to run to church, but not exactly. The dealers might hide out in the ghettos, but you find just as many people buying and using in the affluent suburbs. At high school parties, when the parents disappear.... I'm not kidding. I know a neonatal doctor who named one of the big hospitals out in the 'burbs as one of the ones with premies being born addicted. You don't hear about it because those people pay their bills.

This one can't be saddled strictly on the inner city. I've known plenty of people upper middle class and above who used - and not just cocaine, but a whole lot of other drugs, too.

The monsignor’s humor.
His response to the beast’s question was simply “God”.

I get it.
Depending on the delivery, could be quite hilarious.

A local reporter was touring a new building with company officials. He asked what was the material covering the building, to which someone responded, “Granite.” The reporter asked, “Who makes that?” Several people responded together with the same tone, “God?”

I think the humor is that Hillary and the reporter are clueless. Even though it is NOT funny in the long run.

I owned and operated a very large bail bonding company for many years in an area frequented by drugs. It was my observation from being close to the action, that the Messickans hauled the drugs and wholesaled them to the ghetto blacks. The blacks then merchandised the drugs to the yuppies and preppies who had the flush $$$ to throw away. That included the teen children of the yuppies and preppies also. On any given evening after dark I could cruise the hood and find the pretty blond/blue daughters of the upper crust hanging out where they should not have been.

One drug dealer was caught and jailed and it was determined that he had at that time 9 upper crust white girls pregnant. He did a year for drug sales, and the paternity was never revisited. The point is, the blame is not on any particular spoke or two in the wheel, it is the whole wheel that must be adjusted. This goes on because of corrupt law enforcement that supervises and protects the whole show for a cut of the action. The only way to bring a stop to the mess is to begin with the corrupt cops, then work down the chain, otherwise resources are wasted. It isnt difficult to see what is going on when you see $35,000 a year cops living in $500,000 houses, driving $50,000 SUV’s and riding $30,000 custom motorcycles.

“Our insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade. … I feel very strongly we have a co-responsibility,” Clinton said.
