Gingrich: GOP-ers may form third party

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is warning fellow Republicans that conservatives may leave the GOP for a third party in 2012.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Wednesday during a speech at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, the local television station KY3 reported.

Gingrich thrashed Republicans for allowing increased spending during the Bush administration and for not doing enough to block President Barack Obama’s early initiatives.

“Remember, everything Obama's doing, Bush started last year,” Gingrich said. “If you're going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama's first two, three months.”

The former speaker also attacked the Democratic president on the economic stimulus package and for what he called his “grotesque arrogance” to oust Rick Wagoner as the head of General Motors.

“During the period I was speaker, the U.S. government – for four years – total growth was 2 percent a year. Under Bush, it was 6.1 percent. ... This year, I think it will be 36 percent in one year,” Gingrich said. “It is just literally irrational.”

OK...

Actually, I’ve found some good points among the libertarians (www.lp.org), the Constitution Party (www.constitutionparty.com), and the American Conservative Party (www.americanconservativeparty.org). Some things might be a bit over the top for some folks, but on the main, these might bear some review.

It’s time to take back the country.

This conservative left the Republican party years ago. Quite simply because the GOP is not conservative!

By the time 2004 rolled around, I too had more than enough of them.

GOP-ers may form third party

Of course Newt knows as well as everyone else, the numbers going Independent and moving onto other parties has been rapidly growing in recent years.

For damn good reason.

Newt’s a RINO anymore. If he wants to listen to reall\ Repubs with guts - listen to women like Bachmann and Sarah.

Not the panty waisted RINO men like Miss Graham-nesty and Charlene Crist. Sadly add Mitt to the list with his “let’s praise Obama” crap.

You are certainly correct! His hands are NOT clean and his baggage should certainly not make him part of any conservative movement revival. He's been reaching across the isle so much that someone ought to cut his arms off along with McCain!!!

Plus he's way too much of a "sucker" for all that GANG-GREEN alternative energy stuff and GovernMental EnvironMental Paganism to be considered a commonsense conservative any more!!!

At one point recently, he was playing thigh-rubbing with Hitlery on the nationalization of healthcare and agreeing with her that "healthcare is a right!" What a pantload!!!

I’m sorry, but a GOP split would be disastrous for conservatism and would hand power completely to the Democrats for a generation. It’s a terrible idea. It may be the stupidest political idea I’ve ever heard.

Think about it this way. If conservatives can’t even prevail within the Republican Party, how the hell are they going to prevail over both the Republican *and* Democratic Parties? It’s a ridiculous idea. Get over it — or get steamrolled by the Democrats.

I’m tired of all the “famous” republican cinos in the government, in the media, or in think tanks/magazines. Just what exactly have they brought us?

I’m now an independent conservative.

The republicans are a joke.

I don’t think too many conservatives will be on board with a pro abortion 3rd party.

There already is one.

It's called the Libertarian Party.

There are like five people signed up for it.

A socially conservative, Constitution focused political party that disavowed the ‘trickle down economics’ and interventionist policies of the GOP would succeed.

Innocent lives of pre-born babies can not be sacrificed.

Toss out ‘trickle down economics’ instead, and many votes will be gained with principles remaining intact.

Toss out U.S. involvement in Middle Eastern wars and even more votes will be gained...

...with principles still intact.

Newt lost all credibility when he sat on the diva with Pelosi to talk about global warming.

He is a one brilliant leader who has lost his marbles. Sorta like Carter is now, except Jimmy never was brilliant.

We do have some conservatives in the GOP, however it is currently dominated by the rinos and has been for the last eight years. They even filtered out conservative candidates and recruited more rinos. That is what they used to do when they were a permanent minority party.

Rinos like McCain don’t mind being the minority party because it permits the agenda to be driven by like minded socialists in the Democrat Party. When the GOP is the majority, conservatives dominate and then McCain’s liberal agenda is not “progressing.” A lot of old rinos resigned when the GOP was taken over by conservatives following the Perot mess.

I am most irritated at Republican politicians trying to take credit for the Tea Parties.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate their support, but I am annoyed when there is any appearance that they are leading. it also makes it look like a Republican Movement, which it is not. Their are many political stripes involved. We cannot let this become partisan.

The Republican Politicians are NOT leading the Tea Parties! They’re not leading ANYTHING! Some are following, while trying to look like leaders.

It gives the appearance that this is astroturfing, when it is instead, genuine grass-roots... The biggest of its kind I have ever seen.

If conservatives desert the GOP, they will never have any political power again, and the Dems will never lose it.

Sorry for the wake-up call, but the Republican Party has gone down the tubes and will not ever gain its power back. Any conservative who is still clinging to the GOP can kiss it good-bye and clean off their rose colored glasses. The RNC is so RINO they could be called Dems, and they are leading the GOP. EVERY strongly conservative candidate that came down the pike they pretended to support and then destroyed at the primaries...what rock have you been hiding under? Maybe with the comments on this thread you really an RNC RINO or a Dem?
