'Pilot Took Off Running After Landing Plane'

(Turkish born. . .third paragraph discloses his name)

A pilot who allegedly stole a Cessna plane from a Canadian flight school and was pursued for hours across the Midwest by fighter jets, was taken into custody after he landed on a Missouri highway late today and took off running, an FBI spokesman said.

[. . .]

A college official told a local newspaper that it was believed the pilot was not a student at the school. [. . .]

"Apparently, somebody jumped over the fence and just jumped into an aircraft," Judi Maundrell, the college's vice president of academics and student services, told the Thunder Bay News Source. "It was sitting as usual parked on the ramp. They keys are in all the aircrafts because students are using them." link/a>

Well, that’ stupid. Why would you leave the key in the ignition? Isn’t that some kind of an airport security violation?

What I would like to know is why this cessna was not shot down once it entered our airspace and the pilot refused to answer hails?

He should have been shot down ...full stop, no questions.

ABC made a big deal about the cost to fly the F-16s ...ZERO has spent orders of magnitude more galavanting across Europe dissing the US to people who would be goose stepping witout our guys giving their lives for them. You can live in the past only so long but we have done nothing bad to Europe but allow them to hurt their fists beating on US.

ABC ...Almost a Broadcasting Company

Maybe more money should have been spent providing him with midnight basketball games...

Was wondering the same. . .incredible. ‘Jeopardy’ and ‘threat’ are words that mean something; or should. And now that he is captured; names should mean something as well.

We so friggin PC now that we’re afraid of the criticism that would entail if we had (rightly) shot down this bozo after he refused to take it down.

You know damn well the Ruskies or the Chi-coms would not have had any such hesitation, had this happened in their airspace.

Once again, we show the world and terrorists in particular that we are weak.

Kudos to ABC. The MSM by and large; should be cited for treason by their reporting of Obama. Am glad to ABC ‘stepping out’ here.

. . .yes and for sure. Obama was no doubt apprised of this situation. Meantime and 'next time'; our enemy may have a 'winner'.

I'm guessing they didn't shoot him down for a couple of reasons. One, if they shoot him down, then he's almost certainly dead. Even in this day of excellent forensic science, dead men still tell no tales. They probably really wanted to question him. Two, if he's not close to a major population center, why take a life and destroy property?

That's probably what they were thinking when they did not give the interceptors the green light for a shootdown. However, I would counter that even over relatively sparsely populated areas, there are still US Citizens. How would they like to explain to someone that their loved ones from the farm in Minn are dead 'cause some whack job crashed his stolen aircraft into the farm house?

When he didn't respond to hails or directional commands, I'd have waited until he was over a truly uninhabited area and shot him down. Heck, just doing a close fly-by in full afterburner would probably produce enough wake turbulence to knock it out of the air. Or at least give him the message wide-screen and hi-def that he does not want to be in the same sky with the interceptors and he'd best put it down now.

. . .AND there WAS some concern. . .

At one point, the Wisconsin state capitol building in Madison was evacuated as a precaution as the plane flew over the city.
