Is that like holding up a cross in front of Dracula or something?

GMTA. Exactly my words to Mr. RightField!

Couldn’t he have just pretended it meant “In Hussein’s Service?” Or even that, during his speech, the “His” in IHS referred to him (Obama)? Why and how could three such innocuous letters be such a threat to his image? Very strange.

Of course the media roasted Ashcroft for supposedly covering up a statue.

You're right! Where's the MSM outrage now? (should I used a /sarc tag here?)

Justice Department statues get covered up

In the Latin-speaking Christianity of medieval Western Europe (and so among Catholics and many Protestants today), the most common Christogram is "IHS" or "IHC", derived from the first three letters of the Greek name of Jesus, iota-eta-sigma, or ΙΗΣ. Here, the Greek letter eta was transliterated as the letter H in the Latin-speaking West (Greek eta and Latin-alphabet H had the same visual appearance and shared a common historical origin), while the Greek letter sigma was either transliterated as the Latin letter C (due to the visually similar form of the lunate sigma), or as Latin S (since these letters of the two alphabets wrote the same sound). Because the Latin-alphabet letters I and J were not systematically distinguished until the 17th century, "JHS" and "JHC" are equivalent to "IHS" and "IHC".

Wonder if Georgetown ever listens to more authoritative opinions than those of the Obama White House.

"For whoever is ashamed of Me [Jesus] and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." -- Luke 9:26

Did anyone read the last part of the article?

Obama using the Sermon on the Mount to promote big government, good grief.

First, his cronies asked symbols to be covered up.

Second, Obama perverts Christ's message.

The fact that the audience/Clergy did not raise a stink tells me we have a bunch of lemmings posing as “Spiritual leaders” running amok all over the place.

Matthew 24:15-16,21, 22

Jesus speaking to the disciples sortly before his arrest:

15: When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place...
16: Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains...
(then various warnings not to waste time or look back)

continuing...
21: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22: And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

I’m forever grateful my son rejected Georgetown. That place has been coopted by leftist clergy who think—like the lenders, Wall Street and Detroit auto companies—that their ox will not be gored.

Alas, history repeats itselt—again.

“I am really getting sick of the liberal American Catholic Church. They are pro-ACORN, LULAC, La Raza, MALDEF etc. The Pope needs to smack this down now.”
I rarely venture into dissing or discussing any-ones religious beliefs, but since I was raised Catholic I'll share my puzzlement that I find it incredulous that any Catholic anywhere would support, vote for, or defend any DemonRAT politician for any reason. I have no explanation other that to postulate that many followers of Jesus Christ, Catholic and other denominations are fooled because the cleaver underpinnings of the DemonRATs campaign slogans sound like Christian principles. In fact, snippets of their platform from their web site:
Empowering Families for a New Era
· Affordable, Quality Health Care Coverage for All Americans
· Retirement
· Good Jobs with Good Pay
· Work and Family
· Poverty
· Opportunity for Women
All of these agenda items are carefully chosen because it's hard to fault these items as something one would be unilaterally opposed to. As with everything the DemonRAT party stands for and pays lip service to, the devil is in the details.
Christians believe in being charitable and helping their fellow man, DemonRATS believe in robbing you at gunpoint so they can be charitable with your money.
Christians believe Christ is King, DemonRATs and quite a few Republicans believe they are little Kings. (lessor potentates, not the beverage).
Finally, I think that many Catholics and quite a few other denominations have fallen victim to the decades of slick manipulations of liberal activists who have systematically, purposefully and incrementally waged war on what used to be common sense values. I am always wary of the man or woman that carries the large Bible and proclaims their own righteousness. My experience has always been that they wave those to distract you from what they are doing with the other hand.

He needs to cover up the name of Jesus (IHS) so that he doesn’t indirectly endorse the competition.

Could be......

The White House is still swearing that it wasn’t a bow to the Saudi king, so I guess Obama was just giving Abdulah a Lewinsky.

"How many ways will catholics be insulted before they stop playing door mat to people who disrespect them by their mere presence?"

Stop playing doormat? Try stop voting for the SOBs. Catholics are a reliable DemocRat constituency, and some of the most odious DemocRats are Catholics: Pelosi, Murtha, Kerry, Teddy K...

The Church has some serious weeding-out to do before I can feel too terrible about its doormat status.
