Flea collars harm people and pets, lawsuit alleges
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/23/09 | Jane Kay

Some flea collars for cats and dogs leave chemicals on their fur that are hazardous to the pets and their owners, in violation of California's anti-toxics laws, according to a national environmental group's lawsuit today.

The Natural Resources Defense Council urged federal regulators to remove the products from the market.

Two chemicals in the collars left residue high enough to pose a risk of cancer and neurological damage to children up to 1,000 times higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's acceptable levels, the group said.

"Just because a product is sold in stores doesn't mean it's safe," said Dr. Gina Solomon, a physician and a toxicologist with the environmental group and an author of the study.

Fleas harm people and pets too. Scratch now...or scratch later.

I knew a guy once that wore cat flea collars on both ankles for when he worked in tall grass. He did this to avoid chiggers. He claimed it worked.

This sleazy lawyer is about to collect a whole bunch of extortion money. In return, everyone with pets gets to pay more for their flea collars or they get to watch their pets sicken or die from tick-born illnesses. Still, it could be worse. At least pets don't get something really disgusting ... like an infestation of lawyers sucking their blood.

If ticks and lawyers are both blood sucking parasites, what's the difference?

God created ticks, so they might have a purpose.

Hey now, back in the day some put them around the tops of their boots to keep the ticks and other critters from crawling up their legs.

Me? I just soaked my boot tops, sock tops and bottom edge of the OG 107s in permanone (sp?).

This is why I stopped wearing a flea collar years ago.

My BIL who wore them around his ankles during his two tours in Iraq would disagree most wholeheartedly with these do-gooders.

So why didn’t all those unwashed hippies who began to wear collars because of fleas and lice back in the late 1960s die off?

Flea medications need banned because they are harmful to fleas.

They are just trying to live a happy and peaceful life on and in your pet.

I think we should consult Comrade Obama on this mess. A strongly worded letter and a 9:00 PM press conference during American Idol will teach those flea-murders a lesson.

It had side effects, though. He spent the day chasing field mice and chipmunks.

"Now just what do you think they’re wearing around the top of each leg?"

Sorry.
Can't get past the hairline (gal, right side) starting at the belly button & descending down to wherever it winds-up below the belt-line.
Just can't.

In any event an *excellent* opportunity to practice the Conflict Resolution *skills* they tried teaching me at the university, though.

So, while it was long ago lemme try it out.
Would not a flea collar be worn by a flea bag?

Win-win, JoJo.
Ceegars all around. :o)
