Israeli private security guards on Saturday night thwarted an attack on an Italian cruise ship by Somali pirates.
As the ship sailed far off the coast of Somalia, a small white boat carrying six heavily armed men approached and opened fire. The cruise ship's 1,000 passengers and 500 crew members immediately took cover, and the Israeli security team took over, returning heavy fire at the pirates.
Stunned by the resistance, the pirates made a hasty retreat back to shore. It was one of the first pirate attacks in which a nonmilitary ship fought back.
The cruise line later released a statement saying it hired the Israelis because they are the best trained private security guards it could find.
Roger! Then, how about boarding them while the bandits are
out on a raid? A brief firefight, problem solved and ship
returned.

I feel the same as nearly all freepers do. Kill the pirates out at sea. No trials, no judges. Let the sharks feed on them

if i remember the law of the sea correctly (it's been over 3 decades since i took the course), the capturing power should notify "appropriate authorities" AFTER "final disposition is made of" the captured pirates.

I would like to see ships heavily armed
With the weapons kept in a locker
Have two well trained security men (ex-commando etc) on board
And they co-ordinate defensive measures and training while passing near Somalia
The defenders should have effective weaponry including RPGs. Just blow those pirate boats out of the water. The Somalis come with RPGs

Hear ye, hear ye. You’ve got that right. Too many conservative men these days have been de-b*lled and feminized. What has happened to the man’s man? Now we have too many wooses who won’t stand up and fight for our side of the equation. It’s lock and load time and instead our guys are working Wall Street or are too preoccupied with their personal lives to care about what’s happening to our country. If conservatives don’t learn how to fight back, we are toast. We have seen how quickly our country can be intrinsically changed for the worst and become the USSA. I’m old fashioned about the role of men in society, I resent tremendously what the feminazi’s and the lib courts have done to our men, and if they don’t act soon, they won’t have a country to defend. I’d be perfectly happy to stand beside or behind them, and lock and load.
Today I heard the Yemen navy did it right. Boarded a hijacked
ship, shot it out with the bad guys, arrested 11 pirates and returned the ship.

as for me, i would arm each US-flagged ship with about 10 former Marines/naval commandos (3 groups of THREE w/leader & armed to the teeth with modern weapons) AND train the crew to help defend THEIR ship (with 12 guage pumps & "firing exercises" for the crewmen).
i would (remember RVN was "my period") also arm every US-flagged ship with at least 2 "MA DUECE" - those will keep the pirates at bay from LONG-range.

An Arab would take great offense at a Somali being characterized as Arab. “Sudan” is Arabic for “where black people are,” i.e., non-Arabs. Don’t know what Somali means, though.
Google Earth is often badly out of date. It shows my old house in Far Rockaway as not only still standing, but with the same brick red roofing I had replaced before I sold it to the guy who knocked it down—four or five years ago.
I looked it up... the Arabic meaning for the word Somali means "armpit" of the Horn of African.
Just kidding... and when I wrote the initial post... and after I posted it... I realized my error.
I wonder why FR won't let us edit our typos like all the other forums do?
