Lots of movies are shot in NYC and the Pentagon helps out Hollywood whenever they need military equipment for a film. Since a large passenger jet had to be flown at a low altitude, the military had to send a fighter jet as an escort in order to make sure nothing went wrong.
Perhaps the reason the city of New York wasn't notified is because the producers didn't want any people looking out the windows and standing on rooftops which would mess up the shot.
I don't either. "Taking Photos" explanation is completely bogus people. I know this. My husband is an aerial photographer for a corporation. You don't EVER take aerials from a jet, or a plane. You take them from a helicopter. You can't get a good enough visual from the windows in a plane. Even on the copter he spends most of his time strapped in and hanging out a window when he takes aerials. Absolutely NO FRICKEN WAY ANYONE WOULD TAKE AERIALS OUT OF A PLANE!!!!!!!!!!!! This absolutely DOES NOT pass the smell test.
I had the same thoughts myself. A helicopter would’ve been safer to photog from than that ginormous jet, not to mention easier and CHEAPER.
I don’t buy the argument that it was for an ad campaign/movie/ whatever. They can do CGI much more cheaply and effectively than trying to get a one time fly by shot on an overcast day.
Sumthin’ here just aint right.
although, i am a cop in NYC, i work downtown, and had no knowledge of this. you’d think someone would have said something.

When a community has a pre-planned disaster readiness program, it is all over the news to warn people ahead of time.
There is absolutely no excuse for planes to fly as these did today without a whole lot of forewarning publicity.

It's a joy ride for Obama and friends to get their jollies, seeing New Yorkers scurry. Later, they'll simply say they wanted to see if New York is ready for another terrorist attack.

I don’t know. Maybe it’s Obama looking for a way out of the crap storm that’s coming. He sets things up to claim that he was aboard when Air Force 1 is highjacked and flown into the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty but is actually living with his family on some estate in Indonesia.
I'm sure the chase plane will come back with spectacular photos of Air Force One against the backdrop of the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan.

Dude, you could buy a new Mac/pc, Adobe Photoshop CS4, & hire a pretty fabulous graphic artist for a fraction of what this alleged joy ride photo-op cost We the Peeps. No question.
