Cornyn miffed, Hutchison "surprised" (Pissant Elated) at Specter switch

Republicans are dusting off Specter's statements, recent and ancient, that sounds even a bit like once a Republican, always a Republican. Anything to highlight the level of betrayal -- notwitstanding the fact that Specter hasn't been the most dependable soldier.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has issues this terse statement, calling the party-switch "the height of political self-preservation." He's already building the case that Pennsylvania voters have to make their choice not just on Specter and his opponents, but on the basis of maintaining some legislative check on Obama's power.

"While this presents a short-term disappointment, voters next year will have a clear choice to cast their ballots for a potentially unbridled Democrat super-majority versus the system of checks-and-balances that Americans deserve," Cornyn said.

Texas' senior senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison, had this to say when one of our DC reporters, Laura Isensee, caught up with her a few minutes ago: "I didn't see it coming. I certainly was surprised, and of course I'm disappointed."

Specter was/is getting clobbered in the pre-primary polls.

Toomey was going to clean his clock and he knew it.

He is a sell out. If the Dems want those kinds of people, they can have him.

Loser.

“I didn’t see it coming. I certainly was surprised, and of course I’m disappointed.” -—KBH

And she really thinks she’s going to be elected Governor of Texas, by expressing disappointment that the traitor Specter FINALLY left the party???

NoWayKay!!!!!

Texas, whatever you do, DO NOT elect KBH! I know some don’t like Rick Perry, but he’s definitely the better of the two!

I'm starting to think that Spectre might have been pushed out by Cornyn. He was poison to NRSC fundraising for 2010.

Think they won’t throw him under the boss if he can’t win? Or..... they let him get elected and then he quits and hands the seat over to the Dem Guv to dole out.

Cornyn’s butt is really hanging out right now, after his stupid endorsement of Specter. He needs to step down as Chairman of the NRSC.
The GOP needs to embrace the conservative brand and stop trying to play both sides of the aisle. Specter’s treason reminds me exactly of Colin Powell’s treason last year. Both tried to say the GOP had become too rightwing, while the exact opposite is true. We need a newt Gingrich type to step up and prepare us for 2010 and 2012.

It was not at all hard to see coming. He had been a wolf in sheep’s clothing for a while now. The Democrats are going to OWN it from now on, for good, bad or indifferent.

I think you are correct — Specter was poison to their fundraising. I doubt if I was the only one that said that I wouldn’t give another dime to NRSC if they supported Specter in PA.

Hmmmm....

So now it will be Rudy Giuliani booster Pat Toomey, who tried to give us Rudy Giuliani as the leader of the Conservative movement and country - and now has effectively been complicit in giving the Democrats a Super-Majority, against once-RINO-extraordinaire Arlen Specter, professional pain in Conservatives’ asses.

What a day to be a Pennsylvanian! Blue, and getting bluer.

Sad. Very sad, indeed.

Sen. Cornyn Throws Support to Sen. Specter (04/14/2009)

http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/cornyn_supports_specter/2009/04/14/202693.html?s=al&promo_code=7E01-1

“Sen. John Cornyn says Republican Sen. Arlen Specter is the GOP’s “best bet” to keep his Pennsylvania Senate seat from falling into Democrats’ hands.

“As I survey the political landscape of the upcoming 2010 elections,” Cornyn wrote in a letter released by his office Tuesday, “it’s clear we need more candidates that fit their states. While I doubt Arlen could win an election in my home state of Texas, I am certain that I could not get elected in Pennsylvania. I believe that Senator Specter is our best bet to keep this Senate seat in the GOP column. A vote for Arlen Specter is a vote for denying Harry Reid and the Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate.”

Cornyn’s endorsement amounts to an admission that Republicans have enough to worry about without spending resources to try to oust one of their own.”

Pack your bags Cornyn...
