Steele trash talks Specter: “We’re coming after you and we’re taking you out”

Via Greg Hengler, the chairman puts on a brave face for CNN. Don’t get your hopes up — even Michael Barone’s bearish about Toomey’s chances, calling his candidacy “folly” — but TNR asks a good question: How exactly do the Democrats benefit from having Specter switch? With Toomey sure to beat him in a GOP primary, they could have handpicked any centrist Pennsylvania Democrat they like for the general and stood an odds-on shot of winning the seat. Instead, they let Specter switch for the most cynical, opportunistic reasons, a fact that’ll weigh on some Democrats next year.

Boss Ed Randell of Pennsylvania already promised Specter a clear Democrat primary according to news reports. Although he would have lost the GOP primary to Toomey Specter will probably beat Toomey by 20+ points in the general election. Remember, the last GOP conservative senator in PA got creamed in 2006.

I’m glad A. Sphincter is out. He should have left years ago.

That’s right.

Find a way to divert the anger away from Specter and toward Bush.

I think Michael Steele is trying; but I am sure he knew about it or had a hint. Graham was positively annoying on Fox today. Sort of acknowlegding we conservatives exist; but still tooting the the middle of the road party line saying we can’t win without it. That’s bs. You could tell that he didn’t like the fact that we are giddy over Arlen leaving.

The democrats have already a defacto 60 votes majority in the Senate because Specter, Collins, Snowe vote with them on almost all issues. You should be celebrating that this fool Specter has left the Republican party.

Specter wouldn’t have been there for the last 6 years if Bush and Hush hadn’t bailed him out!!!!!!

It was the Bush-Hush watercarrying that GOOFED over the GOP and set the table for “Hopunnism”.

Bambi and Plugs couldn’t guarantee him he’d automatically be the nominee, but I’m sure they guaranteed him their primary endorsements, their fundraising network and primary campaign appearances. It will all come down to who runs for the Repub nominee besides Toomey (nothing against Toomey, just waiting to see if Ridge runs), what state is the economy in 2010 and how ready is the electorate to make another change. We Americans have very short memories, especially when it comes to politics.

Correct.

PA would’ve had a Democrat filling that senate seat.

I suspect that Specter made a deal with Steele to get Cornyn’s endorsement and then betrayed him.

Toomey would do well to do some fundraising in Texas. Plenty of oil money to tap.

What's he smoking? The only thing that will weigh on most Democrats will be the extra pounds they put on watching TV and scarfing Sara Lee cheesecake.

Exactly. Toomey better prepare for all the Obammy weight from Soros, ACORN and all the other Dim thieves.

Snarlin Spectacle will be 80 years old when he campaigns next year. He is all what is wrong with our politicians with no honor. Instead of retiring with grace and giving the office to a younger candidate this egoist is looking out only for #1. What a stench from DC.

“Will he (or be required to) refund the contributions from pubbie supporters?”

Seems like he could be up for Fraud Charges if he refuses to return donations from Republicans.

Because, assuming the Franken decision stands, the Dems get a fillibuster-proof 60 votes this year, and can put Arlie to pasture in the Dim primaries next year.

no, you're wrong...the democrats are his friends
his soul mates
they understand him...

This bastard needs to be defeated soundly in the election this year.

That will send loud and clear messages to the other Rino $inators.
