You know, like Carly ("I ran two major companies into the ground and got tens of millions in severance") Fiorina who said "No American has a right to a job."
Or Brian Valentine of Microsoft, who said, "Think India! Two for the price of one!"
Yeah, how's that Vista (supposedly coded in India) workin out for them?
And Sun, which was co-founded by an Indian, sure kept at the apex of the computer world, didn't it?
The truth is, the overwhelming majority of the Indians, and the H1-B's, aren't any better than Americans, just cheaper, more arrogant, and with even worse communications skills.
But they make the bottom line look better in the short term, because all of the associated costs of hiring foreigners -- the 12- to 24-hour delays because someone in India didn't understand an email, the burnout from 6AM or 9PM meetings, the cut-n-pasting of rote-memorized code which doesn't fit the new situation, the hand-holding and extra management attention necessary, the extra QA -- don't show up as a single line item, but are amortized throughout the project where they cannot be attributed to a single cause.
And of course you have the issue that many Indians I have seen copy cheat and steal from each other mercilessly -- a rote answer, without any thought as to *why* they are applying a solution.
And the funny part is, in large measure, it is based on the lie of "competitiveness."
Really? What's Microsoft's profit margin? Who is their main competitor who will put them out of business by undercutting their price on software due to cheaper programming costs?
The truth is, most managers (and C-level executives) end up just toeing the party line, which is fed by whichever consultants own the flavor of the day. I'm looking forward to enough crap from India crashing and burning, that the mercantilism and extortion by India (hire our people or we won't open our markets to you once we're prosperous) will be called the bluff that it is.
You know, like Chrysler and GM are selling so many cars in India -- NOT. Ever hear of the Tata? They're selling in their own market, and then will start selling to us.
Short sighted greed on the part of our executives, all starting with Jack Welch, who should be (to paraphrase humorist Dave Berry) -- stabbed, shot, hung, burned at the stake, disembowelled, and then REALLY hurt.

All of which, if true (and I am not at all doubting it!), means that there’s a huge opportunity to beat out these stupid companies that are wasting their money on incompetence!
