Why do I have the sinking feeling that it will be Janet Reno?

Notice the final act of treachery: Retiring under a president of the other party. That is, if you think of Souter as a “Republican” appointment.

But, of course, he isn’t. He’s a member of the Abortion Party.

Which goes to show: NOTHING trumps abortion. The Abortion Party demands, and gets, total allegiance.

George H. W. Walker's biggest mistake. Glad to see him go.

But I have hope. We have not had a Rat nomination to the SCOTUS since 1994, and that was before the Internet was a major force in dealing with nominees. We even 'borked' Harriet Miers before she had a chance to present herself before the Senate.

Zero's first nominee had damn well better be squeaky clean. We know there is no DemonRat judge that meets that definition. We can scare the living crap out of the Blue Dogs over this. And we will.

Hunter, I think you are totally wrong on this. Any Obama nominee will get 80 votes or more. Orrin G. Hatch, “R”-UT, led the Ginsburg forces as I recall. There are no Blue Dogs in the Senate anyway.

Wonder if there is some connection between Arlin Specter switching sides yesterday and this being made public today.

Seems kind of convenient that his nibs now has a bullet proof Senate.

But Bill's available, and I bet he'd like to be a SC justice for the rest of his life...

Consider the irony of a Supreme Court justice who has been stripped of his license to practice before the court...

He can't argue. But he could sit in judgment...

Any evidence that Bill and Hill have cheated on their taxes? Can't get a job with this administration unless you have...

Souter — Bush I appointee-—more lefty than Ginsberg.

That Bush family has really done wonders for conservatives...NOT-—more like advancing the lefist causes.

I pray Obama names Cass Sunstein, so we can start our comeback early.

Good riddance to David Souter as he retires to his log cabin bathhouse in the New Hampshire woods.

These were the women listed as Obama's choices. Which ever is the furthest left and radical will make it. His entire cabinet is a screw up... so who ever served under Alinsky with Obama...

Possible nominees who have been mentioned as being on a theoretical short list include Elena Kagan, the current solicitor general who represents the government before the Supreme Court; Sonia Sotomayor, a Hispanic judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; and Diane Wood, a federal judge in Chicago who taught at the University of Chicago at the same time future President Barack Obama was teaching constitutional law there.

True, but think personalities. Could Souter, a cold fish and shrinking violet, be replaced by a fire-breathing aggressive radical type?

Since the confirmation rules have changed, I hope the Pubbies are willing to Bork the nominee if he or she is too egregious.

I know the name, but I don’t see her as the kind of core liberal Obama would crave. It’s possible.

All the Bush family cared about was returning the GOP to what it was before Reagan. Mission accomplished.

As evidence, I offer the fact that about ten Rat Senators voted against amending the Bankruptcy Act to allow judges to cramdown terms on mortgage loans. That was today.

Like I said, this is the Internet Age, and it's damned hard to get away with being a liberal in this situation. Every single thing that the nominee has EVER done is going to come up, guaranteed.

If we pillage the nominee correctly, Zero will have a tough time finding appointees to accept a nomination when Ginsberg or Stevens retire/die. The Rats "borked" Robert Bork for Watergate way back when, it's payback time. And the pajama media will do all the legwork that's needed to give any Rat nominee pause.

There simply aren’t the votes for that. It would have to be extremely egregious - and it likely may be - but will the GOP make something of it?

Most here seem to implicity agree Obama will not be appointing a white male. He’s far too campaign-oriented for something like that.

Remember, every time you hear the name John Sunnunu, to spit on the ground in disgust. He is the one who gave us Souter.
