A Month in the Life of George W Bush (news and photos): May 2009
www.georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/releases/ ^ | 1st May 2009 | Snugs

All of April and the start of May 2009 find us still being bombarded by the media hyping up the first 100 days of President Obama with no sign of it dying down. Following the introduction to the monthly thread I will post some photos to remind us of the first few days of the first May of the George W Bush Presidency - those were the days.

The quote I have chosen for this month are remarks made during Commander-In-Chief Trophy Event at the South Portico on May 4, 2001.

Tomorrow I will post some more photos from May 2001 I am sure we will see the contrast what we see and hear from the first few months of the Bush Presidency to the Obama Presidency will make us realise even more so how much more respect and love GWB had for the office and the country and more importantly the individual citizens rather than just special interest groups as the current President does not even bother to try to hide.

“I also read on another thread that he mistook Memorial Day
for Veteran’s Day...What an embarrassment.”

Yes, in his weekly address he suggested sending them a care package, saying “thank you”, volunteering at health clinics, or taking supplies to a homeless veterans center.

At the wreath laying ceremony, there was a large group of people in orange shirts in the stands. Were they ACORN? Do you or anyone here know?

He told everyone else what they should do and then he goes...golfing, yes golfing on Memorial day. Of course it was reported that he paused at 3PM for “a moment of silence”, how big of him.
While going golfing on this day for an ordinary citizen may have been OK, the CIC should have had more respect and at least more sense than to do something like that. What a clueless doofus we have in the WH!

FORMER PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH SPEAKS IN BENTON HARBOR
Posted: May 28, 2009 10:13 PM EDT

A big “get” for the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan. Some 2,500 people, including protestors (a whopping 8 protesters), greeted former President Bush at Lake Michigan College Thursday night. President Bush created an unprecedented amount of interest and anticipation.

The Economic Club is known for having high profile speakers most recently former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. But the 2,500 people that lined up outside to get seats to see Bush breaks all attendance records as enthusiasm and anticipation increased before his address. — don’t expect to read this information in your papers today!

IN MICHIGAN, BUSH DEFENDS INTERROGATION POLICIES
By Chris Christoff

BENTON HARBOR – Former President George W. Bush today defended his decision to allow harsh interrogation of a terror suspect in the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S., saying it was cleared by his lawyers to prevent what his advisors believed was another, imminent attack.

. . . Asked how he would like to be remembered, he said, “The man showed up to stand for a set of principles and was unwilling to compromise his soul for the sake of popularity” – an answer that drew a prolonged standing ovation from the friendly crowd.

Unfortunately, the first article quotes the one protester more than Pres. Bush. In an article from the Washington Times, Pres. Bush said he missed flying on Air Force 1, the White House kitchen food, and interacting with the military. He said that it was often a roller coaster of emotions when with the wounded military. Unfortunately, I can't find the link right now. Will look for it when I get back.

I noticed the same problem you did; however, this was the only article that noted the RECORD turnout and level of enthusiasm for President Bush!

The comments at the end are very insightful. One from hoosiergiant said it best, “Why are you such an angry, mean spirited person? You won everything. Why aren't you happy? Obama is doing everything he said he would. You just prove the point that Dems are mean spirited, angry people never have anything positive to say.” That pretty much sums up the nature of the Obamaites.

Here is the link to the Washington Times article

It sounds like the joking former President. I would miss the White House kitchen. For 8 years having delicious, catered meals 3x a day, then have to do all the cooking myself. :-(

DrDeb, once again, I thank you so very much for sharing info and pictures about our dear W. I’ve said this before and it’s the truth.......it lifts my spirit and makes me smile when I see pictures of George W. Bush, an honest, sincere and terrific President! I miss him so much.

I just love the fact that the (leftist) Canadian reporters actually had to admit that President Bush overshadowed Clinton during their Toronto ‘conversation’. President Bush also overshadowed the bogus protesters! [FYI: The protest organizers predicted a turnout exceeding 15,000; they got less than 100!!]:
-

BUSH TOPS CLINTON IN PRESIDENTIAL AFFAIR

. . . Here’s the shocking thing: As an contest between two men who once stood astride the most powerful nation on Earth, it was Bush – beleaguered, besieged, be-damned Bush – who scored higher on sheer entertainment performance.

Whodathunk it? He out-charmed, out-quipped, out-riposted and out-endeared a guy who was, at least until Barack Obama, the most publicly engaging president in modern history. But it was a close thing.

I have been enjoying the Canadian Free Press. They have had many good articles on our country, our politics, and the other side of the story. The side we don’t read about in our media.

Thank you, thank you so much for the pictures. Can not believe how much I miss them. I miss the feeling of security and knowing that grown-ups were in control .

President Bush and Laura Bush were pure class. I feel if we are in a nightmare at the present time.
