Socialist Myth Romney working to reshape GOP's image into Democrat Lite
NECN ^ | 05-02-09 | NECN: Washington, D.C.

Posted on 05/02/2009 6:52:12 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

Former governors Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush joined Congressman Eric Cantor to talk health care, the economy and national security at the first town hall meeting for the National Council for a New America on Saturday. But the group steered clear of abortion and same-sex marriage -- wedge issues that have led to the defection of moderates and independents.

"Listening to people can make a difference. We've got ideas on how we can help people get health insurance, how we can improve our schools, how we can make our economy strong today as well as down the road, how we can reform entitlements -- these are the people of America that have these ideas," Romney said. "We want to share these ideas with one another, and make sure that we're laying out a vision and a plan for America that makes our lives and the lives of our kids better."

Romney lost the Republican presidential primary to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the 2008 election. Since President Obama's election, the Republicans have come under danger of being locked into a filibuster-proof Senate.

Romney said that the focus needs to be return to the American people, rather than elected officials.

"America is great because of the American people, and the skill and ingenuity and entrepreneurship of America. That's what we happen to believe," Romney said of himself, Congressman Eric Cantor and former governor Jeb Bush. "I happen to think right now with regards to our economy, that we're risking doing the very thing to our economy that government did to our housing market. And that is borrow so much money that you create a bubble that ultimately collapses."

You may have to REFRESH 2 or 3 times.

It worked for me doing that.

A slow server probably.

I don’t think Mitt Romney will run again.

I think he’s just helping the GOP.

But, that’s my feeling/opinion on it.

LMAO! He never stopped running.

I think he’s just helping the GOP.

Forcing conservatives out WILL NOT help the GOP it will destroy it.

Conservatives respect the rules, and welcome serious debate about issues.

We will never convince serious people about the seriousness of our conservative values if we flout our own rules and substitute namecalling for serious discussion.

"America is great because of the American people, and the skill and ingenuity and entrepreneurship of America

Empty language from someone who lobbied (along with Obama and McCain) for the socialist TARP abomination.

My error, it seems — assuming the difference in title is due to a FReeper’s change. I apologize to you.

I believe you will find that there is a movement afoot to purge the GOP not only of RINOs, but also of conservatives who made the “mistake” of supporting Romney.

Jim DeMint is the latest that they wish to throw under the bus. The idea apparently is to destroy anybody who appears with or says anything nice about Romney, in the hopes that this will attract a majority of Americans to reject the name-calling liberals and come back to the serious, issues-driven conservative movement.

The logic of that may not be clear to you, but that is because you don’t see the intellectual appeal of funny monikers.

Polled 64% conservative but voted 52% liberal.

I can’t tell you how many people I deal with that think they are conservative until it is their pet issue. Then they are liberal.

Depressing really.

Catholicism is the most common religion in Canada. Canada now has 5 major political parties - all of which support abortion.

Oh, you have not a thing to apologize for.

I like what Mitt Romney said about the economny — about the government creating another “BIG BUBBLE” (i.e., the housing market) — a very good point to bring up.

It's too bad on the other video, they didn't show much of Jeb Bush speaking.

If RINOs want establish their bona fides, show up at an obuma rally where it’s legal to open carry with a sign reading: “Come and get it, obuma.”

62 year old Mitt Romney couldn't do that because he was lying when he claimed that he owned a gun.
