Despite burgeoning information technologies including the Internet and digital wireless communications devices, more than 40 percent of the global population lives under regimes that do not allow freedom of the press.
-Many of the countries that have held consistently worse scores in the study and over the last several years include Iran, Cuba, Russia and Venezuela all countries with which President Barack Obama has sought to improve country-to-country relations.
-Iraq, actually we noted, was the only country in the Middle East this year that showed a numerical improvement, and this was primarily due to an improved security situation that made it easier for both foreign and local journalists to operate effectively and cover the news,
-Specifically identifying Communist China and authoritarian Iran, the report says, This years findings show that governments are now using traditional means of repression including lawsuits, imprisonment, and other forms of harassment to clamp down on this novel means of disseminating information.

Sadly, the 40% includes the U.S.
And most of the other 60% waste it by voluntarily becoming lapdogs of the state.
This may improve if the NYT actually shuts teh Glob down as threatened.

We have freedom of the press when a Republican is President
or when a Republican is running for President!
the only folks who have freedom of the press in this country are the libs.
I hope they are not including Canada and the UK amongst those with a free press. As long as people can be prosecuted for “hate speech” (to be defined by bureaucrats and Leftist judges), there is no freedom of the press.

60% of the members of the UN are not democracies.
Freedom of the Press....Freedom of Speech.....Who or what country has that?
The issue today is freedom FROM the press.
Who here has every tried to write a newspaper? They ignore you unless it is so short it can only be a comment.
They must count the USA or be about ready to add us to the list.
I remember when we still had it here...Before the CommuLeftie evil rats got control of it.
What I’d like is freedom FROM the press!
The United States did have Freedom of the Press until the press corps decided to become biased and communist. Freedom is only freedom if one only uses it honestly.
“More Than 40 Percent of the Human Race Does Not Have Freedom of the Press”
And the 60% that do have a press that willingly lies and feeds them misinformation. So what’s the difference?
