WASHINGTON - The White House aide who authorized the controversial Air Force One photo-op flight last week around the Statue of Liberty is out of a job.

President Obama has accepted the resignation of Louis Caldera, the director of the White House Military Office, the Daily News learned Friday.

A secretary of the Army in the Clinton administration, Caldera took the fall for the public relations fiasco arising from the April 27 flyover, which was designed to replace a publicity photo of Air Force One flying past Mount Rushmore with a similar shot of Obama's 747 jumbo jet over the Statue of Liberty.

There IS ore to this than meets the eye. Caldera is just a fall guy. Its easy to follow a few simple directives and have the necessary clearances issued.

But for some reason the Obama press office did not want to let the public know what this was about.

Likely because this was a favor Obama was doing for some of his friends in the movei business, or Obama just wantd to keep secret who the passengers on Air Force 1 were.

This is the president who witholds information about himself and his activities of a personal nature from the public.

Thise who planned this stunt knew of the effect ot would have, and di it anyway at the directio of the president and his staff. Caldera had the responsibility to follow the necessary proticols but he did not. Now the military wants some accounatbility, and Caldera has agreed to take the public rap in order to keep the whole affair confidential.

And we have heard NOTHING from the pilot of AF 1 who violated secure airspace without notifying civil authorities in New York. RThey are fortunate that NYC police do not have anto shoulder mounted Stinger missiles. The could have talen a sht at AF1!

This was a political favor by Obama to some friends in the movie business, and / or some foreign ambassadorial staff. So now weare supposed to join in whipping Caldera and then the whole matter goes away, as per the MSM.

Who was on that air craft and what were they doing. The American people foot that bill and deserve to know, especially since a few million New Yourlers were terrified by the fly by, reputed at some points to be only 100 feet above some of the tallest buildings in New York.

And this is the activity of our president? Well Act II ought to be pretty tyrannical too , eh?

We need truth and America demands it.

“YELP! The cover-up will do him in!”

Sad to say, I doubt him. He won the election with a room temperature I.Q. and has absolutely no experience. He does major damage to the country on a daily basis. He consorts with Ayers, Dorn, et al. His minister of 20 years curses America. If he can get a pass on all of those things, a cover-up is small potatoes.

Well, the statue is 300 ft tall from base to top.

AF1 here is about 230 feet long.

AF1 looks to be 4 times the objective length of the statue, so it could be about 1000 feet up. I did not correct for parallax. If you assume that 300 is close enough to 230, then having the plane be 4x the statue gives 1200 feet.

The videos of the people running look like the plane is lower than that, though.

The glare at the top and shadow at the bottom correlates well with the story that the shot was snapped with a handheld from one of the chase planes.

If this is a $300K shot I’m taking my Nikon and going pro!

Wow, sharp as a tack with no glare, better contrast, sharp color.

“And the scenery is not blurred by the jet exhaust.”

Good one! I blew up the 350Kbyte shot and could see no sign of the refraction you get around hot exhaust.

I’m not sure about the shadow, looking at the flagpole on the ground, the plane shadow may be out of the frame.

But what lousy resolution!

If you look at the pic posted here of the fighter jets, you can see the exhaust blur of the top plane against the building.

No one could convince me that Louis Caldera was dumb to pull a stunt like this without knowing the consequences. Therefore the only logical conclusion was the Caldera was ordered to setup this flight for a few ‘special’ passengers. Having the flight manifest, and passenger list will solve this problem quickly.

I agree on the pic. It looks horrible...lol.

I actually like to take pics on cloudy days though. Less shadows and glares.

None of this makes sense and I truly believe there is a scandal here. A scandal that we should not allow to drop until there is a better accounting of what happened. What they ‘released’ today should be a further insult to the intelligence of the American people. That’s why the NYT is ‘improving’ the pic. Even they know it is stupid....lol

<that is a pretty crappy professional photo.

My thoughts as well. There was a photoshopped pic on FR that was much more attractive. Who’d take a picture of Air Force One and the Statue of Liberty and have Liberty viewed from the top down and 50x smaller than AFO? It just doesn’t make any sense to say this was a photo op. The photographer needs another job if this is the big $300,000+ picture.

The engines on the presidential airplanes have been modified to lessen their IR signature. You would need to have known good photos of one of these planes in similiar atmospheric conditions and temperature for a true comparison.

I would expect the exhaust to not show much heat distortion.

People were sent running into the streets in panic. This area is a highly sensitive security zone to low flying aircraft of any type and tightly controlled. It is not the place you take a jumbo jet for a low level joyride.

This was an arrogant, disrespectful and provocative display and projection of unrestrained arrogance by the this Administration into the face of honest hard working Americans and degrading the meaning of the Statue of Liberty by committing such an irresponsible and reprehensible act to include the foolish demonstration to the entire world of an enormous waste of tax dollars in this time of financial crisis.

That money could have helped a lot of people in a desperate bind right now who could really use it to help buy some food, pay a bill, or get some critical medical treatment. People who had that money taken from them in taxes.
