The Audacity to Speak: Thoughts on Why Obama Should Excuse Himself from Notre Dame's Commencement

Day Gardner of National Black Pro-Life Union Comments on President Barack Obama's Decision to Speak at Notre Dame

WASHINGTON, May 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- The senior students at the University of Notre Dame worked to complete their degrees and have earned the right to celebrate the joyous occasion of graduation.

Graduating college is an event that marks the culmination of hard work and perseverance. Graduation day should be remembered and revered in the way that we remember weddings, happy birthdays and warm holidays with family and friends.

This year, due to the careless invitation sent to President Barack Obama to speak at Notre Dame by Fr. Jenkins, the schools president, the students will most likely remember the terrible uproar more than anything else.

What can a man who supports abortion, infanticide, embryonic stem cell research and the forcing of healthcare professionals to perform or refer for baby killing have to say to these young men and women--many, if not most who are Catholic and pro-life?

If anything, maybe Mr. Obama should step down off the soap box and listen to them!

I am baffled at the audacity of Barack who insists on speaking at this graduation even if graduating students don't want him there.

President Obama doesn't get it. His ego is so big that he has no problem forcing himself on the students and faculty of Notre Dame.

A man of greater stature would simply have excused himself--in order to maintain decorum and dignity.

President Barack Obama knows that he is wrecking graduation day for many Notre Dame seniors and it is very obvious that he doesn't care.

I think that is becoming the mantra of Mr. Obama--he just doesn't care.

The National Black Pro-Life Union is an organization founded to serve as a clearing house to coordinate the flow of communications among all African American pro-life organizations and individuals in order to better network and combine resources.

We realize that if we are to be successful, it is necessary to share information and/or resources as well as "who gets the credit." We acknowledge that the real credit for any good thing always goes to GOD-not man.

ALL that matters to Zero is his agenda and death is a significant facet of the agenda.

Mr. Obama--he just doesn't care

He cares very much to legitimize his extreme pro-abort views. About the graduates, indeed, he does not care. To think that Obama will excuse himself on some sentimental grounds is very naive.

I’m beginning to think that Obama does get it. He wants a confrontation with the Catholic Church, so he can show who is the real Messiah: Jesus Christ or Barack Hussein Obama.

If this bozo is allowed to speak at Notre Dame, then I hope that hundreds, if not thousands, of graduates stand up and turn around to show their back to this empty suit.

His performance today at Arizona State has an outrage to anything that America stands for.

And before that, the graduates start chanting the circus tune “March of the Gladiators.” La-da-ditty itty la da da da...

If he cared a rats patoot about his so called profession of faith he would go do it it at a Southern Baptist institution. Except those wily Baptists would never have invited him in the first place.

This is the University of Our Lady.

Not a Catholic myself, I am aware that the Catholic Church has invested its very credibility in its decision to give Mary a central place in its understanding of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ. They have steadfastly held for many years to her eternal virginity. They have held to her special status with her Son, saying that His love for His mother would be eternally extant.

While these are things of faith, they are things which have required a great deal of cost. Yet despite the cost of this insistence on the Specialness of Mary, the Catholic Church has maintained its stance.

How is it, then, that the very one who had so much to lose for her decision to bear the Child, who was no doubt subject to scorn and rejection for such a decision, is the very one whose name, Our Lady, is associated with the place in which an abortionist and anti-life prophet will be given a pulpit from which to gain further credibility in the minds of the people? How can it possibly be at at the place of learning named for Our Lady that this man will not just be given an honored place to speak, but he will also be honored with presents that proclaim him as an exemplary man of wisdom?

Why at the University of Our Lady?

Even this methodist sees the great contradiction in that.

Why at the University of Our Lady?

I think, from Zero's viewpoint the "why" is rather simple.

There are one billion Catholics in the world and approximately a quarter of Americans identify themselves as Catholic.

The forces of evil could care less about the theological differences between Catholics and Protestants, their SOLE GOAL is the total destruction of Christianity and they know that this is impossible without the destruction of the Catholic Church. Quite simply, they believe with Catholicism "out of the way" that Anglicans, Calvinists, Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, non-denominational Evangelicals, etc. will be "easy targets".

They have targeted Notre Dame simply because they believe that this desecration of our Lady will be a dagger through the heart of Catholicism -- and they will soon discover, as have others throughout history, that they have totally miscalculated HIS POWER.

“President Obama doesn’t get it.....”

Absolute nonsense. HE GETS IT. We don’t. We keep trying to play games with “powers and principalities” ....He is doing it...because he will put his boot on the neck of Notre Dame...and the majority of “Catholic” that voted for him will let it happen. The greatest recourse for his soul is prayer...and it is the greatest threat to him who he serves.

This sounds like the truly proper response to this evil is a time of devoted prayer.

Many times we say, “We should pray.”, and while we do believe in prayer, we hear it as a rote exercise that is being requested.

This, though, is a time in which God’s people should truly seek His heart for His special guidance or for His special intervention.

And please do not take this beyond an allusion, but “he stands in the Temple of God showing himself” to be uncaring of all but his own agenda.

As the commencement is less than two days away I think it is a near certainty that Zero WILL be speaking at Notre Dame. So, while we must continue to pray that this desecration not happen, we must also pray that the events that come afterward leave no doubt what His Will really is and that the “priests” responsible for the invitation be held accountable.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Notre Dame’s recruiting next year. I, for one, wouldn’t want my grandkids going there.
