The GOP's Prejean Moment
The American Thinker ^ | May 19, 2009 | George Joyce

Posted on 05/18/2009 10:18:29 PM PDT by Scanian

She's young, beautiful, articulate, patriotic, Christian, and most importantly, courageous. To many on the left however Carrie Prejean, the current Miss California, is a bigoted, shameful, and intolerant homophobe. What Carrie Prejean represents, in other words, is a modern day inkblot test of inestimable value to America's frustrated and exiled GOP. If there was ever a time in this modern day Alice in Wonderland cultural climate for conservatives to take a stand on something and shake the political world upside down, that time is now.

What can Carrie Prejean do for America and the GOP? For starters, she can drive a very deep wedge into the heart of "Generation Y" - those legions of swooning Obama youth who may have single handedly delivered America over to the radical left in the last election. While many liberals fashion their identities by atoning for anything traditionally American, Prejean can help persuade young people that patriotism, faith, marriage and tradition are actually, despite what the left may say, pretty cool.

While Obama and the Democrats actively seek to establish a Big Brother type intrusion of the Federal Government into our daily lives, Prejean can show her youthful cohorts that dependency isn't very hip. She can argue that part of growing up means being self-reliant; it also means that in order to preserve freedom, one's family, friends, and faith should be consulted, not just the federal government.

The woman's position is fine, but please, let's not make out like she's a martyr. She lost a beauty pageant, fer pete's sake, and labels traditional marriage "opposite".

I'm not attacking her, but if we make this attractive woman our poster girl, we're done as thoroughly as when we made McCain our nominee.

yeah, but how many GOP office holders are willing to defend traditional marriage like she did? And many of them sound a little dim when they talk about the social issue stuff, don’t they? And these are the GOP’s best and brightest?

Thank you for posting this article. While it suggests an interesting point, it could be argued that the magnitude of attention directed toward Carrie Prejean is directly proportionate to how much room conservatives still have to grow before they/we get our act together (and the voices giving her attention are the last ones we ought to be heeding). Prejean’s lone accomplishment has been to offend a bunch of wackos and stir up a little bit of heat among the lowest rung of the already bottom-dwelling American media: entertainment reporters. As she grows in her faith, she will come to realize that semi-topless modeling shots and beauty pageants sponsored by Donald Trump are not productive ways to reflect Jesus Christ in her life (speaking not out of judgment, but from the wealth of experience that is my own pedigree of stupidity).

As far as reaching out to the young Obama voters, the only thing that will reach out to them — and it will very soon — is life smacking them upside their heads as they realize just how untenable, unjust and uninformed the Obama worldview really is. The solution is NOT, as this article inadvertently suggests, to fight dumb with dumber. Hearts and minds are changed by knowledge, wisdom and a good deal of grace - not by the poster girl du jour, and definitely not when the target audience consists of cynical postmodernists.

I've heard real marriage defended many, many times, and she sounded tentative and inarticulate. And just because others sound dim doesn't mean we should promote someone who definitely isn't one of the best and brightest, to use your term. I mean, come on, she could barely get a sentence out. At her press conference she was fine, but so are many people.

We have to start backing serious people who can hold a conversation and articulate our positions. In this time when we need a GREAT communicator to go up against The Teleprompter, do you seriously think this woman is in the class to go head-to-head with the libs? I thought we were the party of adults--we're going to become the party of traditional values that somehow has a freakin' beauty contestant as a spokesperson? I'd love to hear her ideas about economics...

No, instead make Homowerewolf Hilton Perez the poster queen of the Democratic Party.

Put him up in lights from now until 2012, all his snarks and nastinesses, and show those young people the heart of the Democratic Party, as it really is.

Hear hear to your post. Conservatives are really desperate and grasping for straw like a drowning man when this is what we attempt to raise as a spokesman for the party/movement. God bless her for taking her stand, but when are WE going to get the infection of pop culture out of our systems and start looking for substance with the style? I’ve really lost my faith in movements-faith in political party has been gone-if this is what we’ve sunk to. Credit to her where credit is due, but we can’t make someone what they’re not and never tried to be.

I declare, survivalism is about the only secular “movement”, such as it is, that I have much faith in now.

I'm afraid too many of today's heartless, soulless cynics would just love him. This is the reality TV/American Idol bunch, they look for about as much depth as a mosquito. And the more depraved, the better they like it.

The woman's position is fine, but please, let's not make out like she's a martyr.

She stood up for traditional marriage, and the ad hominems, e.g. homophobe, intolerant, etc., started. A marriage of Mr. & Mr. or Mrs. & Mrs., it's absurd. Prejean was a victim of the Gramsci heterophobes in the culture war.

Sarah Palin Defends Miss Calif. Prejean

I don't see much difference from the attacks on Palin.

LOL Great point.

What's hilarious about this whole thing, to me, is that she took the same position as Obama, yet Obama followers attacked her--which tells you, of course, that they all know Obama really doesn't believe what he says. I have a feeling he will have a "change of heart" about this issue should he win a second term.

Good points. We’re only going to be able to battle the libs if we get articulate people who can back up what they say with reality. This infatuation with celebrity is poisonous.

IF ONLY Carrie had started her answer to that freakish scumbag’s question at the pageant with the phrase, “Oh, on that issue I think I’m going to have to agree with President Obama....”

Good Post Neverdem. Thanks for the link. Your right. Carrie Prejean is taking the slings and arrows on this what should be GOP plank moment. Yet only Sarah Palin has stood up for her. The GOP is missing a golden opportunity to stand up for traditional marriage in the culture war being waged here in the US. If the GOP does not start defining themselves soon it will be another 4 more years of Barry and company.

Right now Carrie Prejean is the only visable person carrying the fight to the other side on this so more power to her. I will stand with her.

Conservatives are like ants pouring out from an anthill when water is being poured straight on it. They run in all different directions. The problem with conservatives is that nobody is good enough. George W. Bush is wishy-washy, Jeb Bush is oh no, another Bush, Newt Gingrich is disgraced, Sarah Palin has been savaged by the media, Carrie Prejean took her clothes off and had a boob job, OH NO!!! Makes me effin’ sick.

Liberals,on the other hand, are able to put their differences aside. Homosexuals and NAMBLA, and the people at Child Protective Services; auto workers and environmentalists; atheists and moslems; liberals, with obvious differences and total incompatibilities, yet they can get together and elect a President entirely on image, with absolutely no other qualification except that he can win.

This is why Republicans are going to be in the minority for a good while. Their core constituencies can’t agree on the importance of compromise amongst the positions they hold sacrosanct.

And anyway, I don’t care that the girl thought she was pretty enough to win a beauty contest. Or if she had a boob job. Or if people want to call her a dumb blond. Those people can go screw themselves for all I care. She’s on my side, and I’m on her side.

Rock On Webheart good post there.

Like Rush was saying about the economy the other day life gives you teachable moments and the GOP just seems to keep dropping the ball each time it is handed to them.

Instead of catching the wave when it comes by and riding it to victory the GOP and members in it are "Stuck on stupid!" and to busy arguing over who has the coolest ride and miss getting to the beach.

When some punk with an agenda asks us a tough question, we should look him in the eye and give him the answer we know is true, rather than the answer we “should” give.

If Republicans did this one thing, they would go a long way toward solving their problems.
