More stockpiling ammunition: Fear of potential Obama laws causing mass sales

Every day, Darren Newsom's three Bitterroot Valley Ammunition facilities crank out 300,000 rounds of ammunition.

It's not nearly enough.

“I'm going about 100,000 rounds in the wrong direction every day,” Newsom said. “We probably have about six months of back orders right now.”

Newsom has been in the ammunition manufacturing business for more than 20 years and he's never seen demand this high.

Fearful of the Obama administration's potential to tighten gun control laws, people from all over the country are stocking up on guns and ammunition.

“I went through the Clinton years and there was a bit of a scare then,” Newsom said. “This is like the Clinton years on steroids. On the day of the election, our phones started going nuts. It hasn't stopped since.”

As a master distributor for ATK - the world's largest ammunition business - Bitterroot Valley Ammunition supplies other ammunition manufacturers around the country with the components needed to make bullets.

“I get a million primers in every other day and most are shipped out the very next day,” he said. “I have 100 million primers on back order right now. We just can't get enough of them.”

At a recent gun show in Salt Lake City, Newsom sold somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 rounds in the first two hours.

“It's just unreal,” he said. “Somewhere in lots of basements around the country, there are millions of rounds of ammunition being stored.”

Local businesses have felt the ammunition shortage.

At Bob Ward's in Hamilton, Mike Matteson said there has been quite a run on ammunition and reloading supplies like bullets and powder since the election.

“We are especially low right now with pistol ammunition,” Matteson said. “There are four or five calibers that we don't even have on our shelves.”

Ben Franklin was right in observing, “When people are scared of their government, it is tyranny. When government is scared of the people, it is liberty.” This inspired the title of Mark Levin’s current best seller, “Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto.”
We need to get to the point that government is more scared of the people than people are of the government.

People have enough ammo on hand now that they are beginning to lose their fear of the gubmint.

Don’t know if it’s the same there, but here in Albuquerque the shelves are bare. Almost no ammo anywhere. Scary stuff. Can’t even get powder for reloading shotgun shells.

I asked this of someone today, and didnt get a good answer

If the people arent afraid of the govt, then why is it that while people are cutting back on everything else, theyre buying guns and ammo like its going out of style?

It is not hoarding. It is stockpiling. Hoarding is something that technically cannot be done until AFTER something is rationed.

Like when people were preparing beforehand for Y2K by stockpiling food and water. It isn’t hoarding. Preparedness is never hoarding. Trying to buy all the stuff up AFTER a disaster or something like that, THAT is hoarding.

And there are other factors at work. The demand for, and price of metals increasing is one. Trying to purchase at the current cost, expecting it to go higher later. People purchasing a valuable commodity for the future is another.

Many in government are scared of us. Hence what they are trying to do to us.

Yup. I hope the Democrats are reading this VERY clear signal from the American people that they will be pushed only so far, and no farther, and that the tipping point is VERY, VERY close.

Gee, it’s like people read the Homeland Security report and thought they were being targeted by the government or something.

The following is a public service announcement.

Here's my tip of the month: there is still a great pistol and ammo deal out there waiting for you. If you have waited too long to arm up, or if you want one more, look at the excellent milsurp CZ-52 pistol and 7.62X25 Tokarev ammo.

You can get a CZ-52 for about $200 at any gun show or at many gun stores. You can also find them by googling around the internet. The ammo can be had for as low as 11 cents a bullet in any quantity you want. Extra mags are from $12 to $20 each.

The milsurp ammo is full metal jacket, firing an 85gr bullet at 1,600fps. These will go through car doors, kevlar helmets, kevlar vests etc like an icepick through butter. OTOH, they will also go through one bad guy and maybe hit a good guy behind him.

However, you can buy hollowpoints ("Wolf Gold" with brass shells) for about $19/50, or half the price of comparable 9mm JHPs. My test "Wolf Gold" JHP ammo expanded to .60 caliber, the same as my test 9mm JHPs.

So for $400, you could buy a CZ-52, 1,500 rounds of assorted ammo, and a few extra mags. OR, you could buy about 2/3s of a "brand name" pistol, and no ammo.

It's just a thought. This is a great bargain. The ammo is cheap and plentiful at all of the internet catalog sites. Don't wait, the libtards will soon slam the door on foreign gun and ammo imports, and the prices will go way up.

Another benefit of this pistol is that it is very accurate, with very fine sights. WIth this flat-shooting ammo, you can hit at 100 yards with ease. Downsides are brittle firing pins (buy a spare, and don't dry fire) and a decocking function that you should not trust. Just lower the SA hammer like a 1911. The safety works like a 1911, so if you are used to 1911s, it will be very easy to use the CZ-52
