Not quite a year after defeating a Republican and becoming Michigan’s first new attorney general in nearly four decades, Jennifer M. Granholm, the highest-ranking and most-talked-about Democrat in the state, faced what turned out to be a defining hurdle.
It is not clear what kind of legal style Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan would take with her to the Supreme Court.
It was 1999, and the state was controlled by Republicans. The Legislature sought to fast-track a measure that would have stripped her office of core powers, including the right to sue the state, represent individuals and have official opinions carry the force of law.

Hard to believe that a guy who graduated from Harvard Law and ‘taught’ law at Chicago Law School thinks that the primary qualification for a member of the Supreme Court is ‘empathy’ and ‘experience in American life’. Gee. What a compelling legal argument....

Wayne County, the home of Detroit, has a long history of corrupt government. In the 1990's, the state and feds were investigating Ed McNamara, who was County Exec. The friendly Democratic Michigan Attorney General was retiring and McNamara needed a patsy to protect him. He chose and elected his Wayne County corporation counsel, Jennifer Granholm. Needless to say, he was never investigated by her. After doing essentially nothing as Attorney General, the McNamara machine elected her Governor, where we have suffered with her ever since.
She never did anything to stop corruption in Detroit either. The father of Kwame Kilpatrick, the recently convicted mayor of Detroit, was McNamara's Chief of Staff.
Yes it appears that way. Remember the talk when O’Connor was retiring that her seat was a female seat. Well it seems that 0bama believes the court needs anouther woman and he is taking the confirmed bachelor seat and giving it to a woman....
C’mon, it’s the always-relevant Peter Principle all over again: as a Supreme Court Justice she will have TRULY risen to her level of incompetence.

Absolutely correct, MacombBob. Just want to throw in that our current AG is also part of the McNamara machine, and IMHO, Mike Cox is dirtier and slimier than Granholm. The really sad thing is that he’s in our party. God help our state if that cheating crybaby follows Granholm again.

Her Berkeley doctoral thesis was titled “Why I Love French Communists.” During her terror reign as the state’s AG, Granholm wrote nothing of substance. She has stolen billions from productive areas of Michigan and dumped the cash to thug liberal politicians in Detroit and Lansing. If you drive along the state’s cow path highways, you’ll notice the ordinary citizens driving rusty clunkers, while her state bureaucrat friends drive new SUVs and pickups.
