Obama: North Korea 'Recklessly Challenging' International Community
Fox News ^ | Monday, May 25, 2009 | James Rosen and Greg Palkot and The Associated Press

North Korea's nuclear test is a "matter of grave concern," President Obama said Monday, as officials in Washington accused the rogue regime of blatantly defying the international community.

The communist country said it had carried out a powerful underground nuclear test, much larger than one conducted in 2006. The regime also test-fired three short-range, ground-to-air missiles later Monday from the same northeastern site where it launched a rocket last month, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing unnamed sources.

The twin moves were roundly condemned in Washington.

"These actions, while not a surprise given its statements and actions to date, are a matter of grave concern to all nations," Obama said in a written statement, calling them an apparent violation of international law. "North Korea's attempts to develop nuclear weapons, as well as its ballistic missile program, constitute a threat to international peace and security."

The “international community” is VERY VERY weak. What good is rounding up allies that don’t have any power? That’s why we’re in this situation:
Our so-called allies have withered away over the years leaving us as the only tiger with teeth. Iran, China, N. Korea and the rest of the bunch can clearly see this.

In the meantime, our resources are being sucked up by our parasitic “allies” while our enemies arm themselves to the teeth. And Obama can only beg for help that will never arrive. What a joke!

I thought “grave” meant “dire” and ready to go to war. However, Bush didn’t use it in the final warning to Saddam - he just said “serious”, so I don’t know what it means any more. At any rate, if we ever hope for military projection of power by this admin it will be like back when we hoped, we prayed, we wished, we cajoled that Clinton would do something more with Saddam than fire a cruise missle at a tent and hit a camel in the ass.

true, but in all fairness, DPRK was going to be able to do this regardless of who was in office. The bush-admin’s ‘6-party talks’ have been going on for quite a while, now....DPRK material was apparently found in the syrian site the israelis took out, so it isn’t like there were visible consequences for proliferating.

I’ve been saying to whomever will listen that the only thing that will fix our economy is the same thing that did last time—a world war that wrecks 50 percent of the world’s production base.

Who are our main competitors in the near future, economically? China & India.

What hornet’s nests will need to be poked to start a major war that destroys these country’s industrial bases? Pakistan and North Korea.

Thank you, drive through.

I agree. It’s not like I want it to happen, but I have a very hard time seeing how the world “turns the corner” without a massive war and 100 million casualties. Probably more than that.

Considering that WW2 had 3/4 of that number, I’d wager the over on that total.

Sometimes geopolitical situation(s) are so gridlocked the only thing you can do is blast them to smithereens. It’s happened over and over and won’t ever stop.

The crazy thing is if he decided to do something militarily, he is likely to get a whole lot more people killed just simply because he is a leftist who knows little to nothing about it.

http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/row/RS21834.pdf

“Since 1995, the United States has provided North Korea with over $1 billion in
assistance, about 60% of which has paid for food aid and 40% or so paying for energy assistance.” - per the article

How dumb can we get?
